Would you normally be paid for Labor Day of you missed the day before or after?

That is how my previous employer would get the employees. I was salary so it didn't matter, but I had a team of hourly employees. That day before and day after thing gets tricky for employees that worked 4 10'x the week before.

I fought and won that battle for our guys with HR. One of my few victories within that company.

One thing I learned is not to be too loyal and dedicated to a corporation, especially large ones. The corporation is not an individual and there probably isn't 2 people at the HQ that even know you exist. You really have to do what is best for yourself. There may be exceptions with a locally owned small corporation, but even then...idk.

That's why I don't ever ever ever take work too seriously or let it be a big part of my life. In the end, the company sees you as a worker and not a person. Most of them see you as replaceable and don't give a frick about you, so why should we do the same?

I did work remotely on task that had normal due dates. I sat in and participated on zoom calls. Took
calls from customers and team members daily.

The company did not give me 3 free days. Weekends were involved in this quarantine.

What’s done is done and what the company deems as correct procedure is what went down. I perform all my job duties at a high level and will continue to do
so, but I can still be salty about the situation.
This, plus taking a PTO day for a holiday ? I’d start looking for a new job tomorrow. And I’m pretty sure the latter isn’t even legal.

If your normal schedule is 4 10's and a holiday falls on a Friday or Monday, employees should be paid straight time holiday pay.
If the normal schedule is to work 5 days/week, this does not apply and is at the discretion of the employer.
Sounds like the OP isn't as good at his job at he thinks, or he is undervalued by his employer.
Everyone thinks they are the best there is at their job and that they are owed everything because of their own delusions.

As you should.

They did the same to me when I was actually violently ill, and once my pto was exhausted, I had to go on unpaid leave. Even charged me unpaid leave when the office was shut down and evacuated due to the hurricane.
