For those skeered of the reddit link, it's a video of a device that can track mosquitos, then zaps them with a laser (no idea if the sound comes from the device or was dubbed into the video).

Those look like bigger bugs than mosquitos.

The science behind banning it has largely been debunked. The main concerns are that DDT can remain in the environment for years and years, as well as the possible effects on the endocrine systems of humans and animals. Those two factors are not a good combination, but mosquito borne viruses can be worse in certain areas in both the U.S. and worldwide.
