It appears she steps forward and one foot is out of the batter's box upon making contact with the ball. OUT!!

Looks like she had a running start out of the batters box. Think that is illegal.
Its called a slap hitting and is defiantly legal. I think any girl that is somewhat fast does this.

She was running before she ever swung. That's an out.
Then the umpire would have called the play dead and the batter out right away

No. She did do a "slap bunt" but she was still in the batters box when she hit it. I looked at it frame by frame and she was still in the box.

Why even have a batters box if you can be out of it?
Also, looks like it's her uncle or something that wrote the article.

You wrong baw.
Looked like she was in the box still to me. That 1B ump was just ready to get to the house.

I'm going to trust the guy watching it from 5ft away in 3D rather than someone watching from 40' away on a twitter video.

My thought too. The guy who called her safe was the first base ump, who wasn't making the call based upon her being out of the box, but was looking squarely at the bag. Idiot.

She looked to still be in the batters box when she made contact. she only moved her back foot.

“We didn’t play our best, but it felt even better to win because of that umpire. He just wanted to go home,” said Jasper.
Ump wanted to end the blowout and get home in time to watch The Bachelor.

OK, I'll take your word for it, too trivial to argue about anyway. I can't see for sure where she is because of the kid's head and no visibility of the chalk. If she's still in the box upon contact, she's definitely in the last few inches of it. Barring any other unknown events it would appear she's safe. I still have to wonder what else was in question. The call is inexplicable otherwise.

Did the home plate ump call her out?
No?
Wonder why?
Who did call her out?
1st base ump?
Whys he looking at 1 when he calls her out?
Who has a better vantage of her being or not being in the batters box, home ump or 1st base ump?
Did any other of your parents kids survive?

The 1st base ump just reiterated what the home plate ump called. I thought it was pretty obvious.
Maybe I am missing something though.
Possibly we need another angle.

Can't believe I'm getting suckered into this...curiosity getting the best of me.. I transferred to a video edit. This frame is right before the bat makes contact. You can see the ball on the bat, her back foot now out in front and looks to be in field of play. We also don't see the plate umpire. I wouldn't bet my life either way but I still think there's a chance she's out.
