This is approaching Ooh Aah Point where she fell. (Actually, this is a couple switchbacks after Ooh Aah Point.) That looks steep, and it is, but if you fell here you would likely come to a stop fairly soon, unless you decided to do cartwheels.

I am surprised more people don't plummet to their deaths there. When we took a trip out west last March, I saw so much incredible stupidity If you want to talk about scary ledges, hike Angels Landing in Zion NP. The hike kicks serious arse, but there are stretches of terror.

I couldn't agree with this post more, though I admit that my hiking days are largely behind me.

Another good example is the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge Walkway. The railing on it is pretty high and sturdy but there's no net or anything to stop you from going over it...and I've seen more than a few idiots taking selfies while sitting on it. As you can see, it's a bit of a drop if you go over...

Oh yeah, it gets very narrow, especially if mules are coming downhill. If you're carrying a pack and trip a little, it'd be very easy for the weight just to carry you over the ledge.

This video starts at the 25 minute 20 second mark. Ooh Aah Point is where she fell.

The only thing that makes sense is if she fell where this guy in the video went. She can easily fall 400 feet here.

I have a friend who fell 200 ft. recently in the Linville Gorge area of NC. He survived only by the grace of God but, he is a very experienced backpacker that you would never think this could happen to. He lost his footing for a second and the weight of his pack carried him over.

I can imagine- last summer on some hiking trails in glacier NP there is a section of ledge for maybe a mile? That the path looked narrow to myself and anchored to the wall is a garden hose. So if someone is coming in the opposite direction Etc some will be up against the wall and the unlucky soul will be near the edge. I declined the hike. I felt like a wuss.

Highline Trail. Pretty narrow but the guide line part is only a few hundred feet, and not that bad in reality. A bad misstep that made you go sideways would be deadly.

I recently did the Devil's Causeway Loop that featured the stretch pictured below. It was 3-4' wide. We had 35 lb. packs and scrambling over this part of the trail, the most dangerous thing to me was if your pack weight shifted.
