It was going to just be my wife and kids today so we decided we weren’t going to make anything traditional for Thanksgiving except the pies. It’ll be grilled chicken, sausage and rice dressing.

MIL invited herself and FIL over last minute because they decided not to drive to where the big family gathering is.

She is going to be pissed when she finds out there is no turkey, dressing, etc. My wife didn’t tell them out of spite for being mooches (they didn’t offer to bring anything and usually don’t) and inviting themselves over (“guess what we are doing for thanksgiving! Coming to your place!”)

Update - MIL was not pleased but didn't say anything to me about it.

I made some tater tots for the kids and MIL put some on her plate. She made a few dirty looks while eating them. They didn't stay long after the pie. She did ask where the pumpkin pie was and I said "I thought you were bringing it".

Had great family dinner, which we had to cook since mother n law kitchen is being redone. (Wasp problems) We bailed on cooking the turkey as it wasn’t thrawed and got a smoked one at Mosleys, (70 damn bucks but worth it) Everything was great, but didn’t have the spinach Madeline. But had both chocolate and lemon pie, and Carmel cake so Ok. I am pretty sure the kids snuck off to smoke or vape their weed etc. Then I sat my fat old arse on coach and watched football and took a nap, watched more football, ate more cake etc. Perfect Thanksgiving!

Had a pleasant time at the SIL’s. The only political thing mentioned, which was the main potential annoyance, was how she boycotts Hobby Lobby because they’re a conservative company. Rolleyes. Otherwise good food and convo.

My girlfriend passed out and went in. I’m in the hot tub with three of her girlfriends and the mother of one of them sewed Brian Boitanos pants.

I have absolutely nothing in common with the men on her side of the family since their entire existence revolves around deer hunting. I don't hunt (only because the few times I've gone out it was fruitless and boring).[downvotes expected] Since the small talk can only take up so many minutes, the rest of the time I sit there with a blank stare and basically remain silent. I've made efforts to be more social, and so have they, but it never works for more than 2 minutes.
