Additionally, it was a logistical nightmare, as the students were tracked into 4 groups, with one of them out at a time. So, if you were on Track A, you got pretty much all of December off and if you were on Track D, you got pretty much all of January off. But, Tracks C & D got only the two weeks right at Christmas and were either coming off only 15 days of school (starting in early December), or were going to come back for 15 days of school before going on break in late January.

That sounds more like a variation of platooning than what is commonly thought of as year-round school.

And I can see how that would be a logistical nightmare and lead to a lot of issues and not much success.

Kids are in private school, doesn’t apply to me but with 2 parents working, finding childcare for 2 weeks at a time sounds pretty hard when there are plenty of camps available for a summer

If this was done district wide then I have no doubt that plenty summer camp options would shift to covering these 2 weeks gaps. It would be a big shift, but I don’t see this being any more of an issue than it is now.

Private school part would be interesting...curios if they would eventually follow the same schedule after a couple years of all public schools doing this.

This was a huge issue when my son was in 2nd grade. Cy Fair ISD went to year round for 1 year a little over 25 years ago. It was awful. Think about churches and camps trying to have camp, vacation Bible school, trips, etc. when different districts have different schedules and private schools as well. It wasn't statewide and our districts all have different calendars anyway. We all hated it and families voted it down for the next year. Students had 3 week vacations in November, July, and I think maybe March.

We also didn’t get a week for thanksgiving, a week for Easter, a week for Mardi Gras, and two weeks for Christmas.

We also didn't get as much time for the normal holidays as they previously had. HATED it! My son was in day care, so it was just different months in daycare, but typically in the summer the day care did things like have water play day or go swimming one day a week. They did outdoor kinds of things in the normal summer. I mean what do you do on a random day in November?

No one mentions anything about Traditions. We use to have Traditions but with our Hip Woke Assed kulture today Traditions seem to be out of style. I'm for Traditions. Tradition was that School started the day after Labor Day and ended during the last week of May. I fear that having year round school will only increase the number of Drop Outs. Come to think of it we need less school days. Too much time is wasted during the school day. If the wasted time was eliminated perhaps the children could complete 1st and 2nd grade in 8 months time and so on. Think of the money that could be saved !

I'm more concerned with our children being competitive in an increasing competitive world.

We aren't saying get rid of Homecoming...

I can think of a lot of negatives: Burn out, when would kids get remediation/summer school?, scheduling for extra curricular activities, the tourism industry, internships.

Also I can't think of any positives except that we are "falling behind" but there is no academic proof that changing this schedule would help students learn. Also these academic studies would not foresee any new problems that could arise.

In my personal opinions I could see schools moving to four day weeks, with a "catch up day" on Friday's being optional or remote before going to a year round calendar.

Just because there are bad teachers that give teachers a reputation, doesn't mean most are lazy. See what is currently happening to police officers.

Wish Texas would require this. It's proven to assist with retaining knowledge and building skills.
