Y'all ever seen anything like this? Found in backyard trees.

I just bought this house about a month ago. I was tooling around in the back yard evaluating work to be done on these maple trees and ran across these two "devices" in two separate trees. Do y'all have any idea as to what they are?
Squirrel/bird deterrent? Tweaker activity? The attachment of the spring to the pvc with a bolt and nut seems too advanced to be just a kid putting something over tree limbs.

I'll give some more info on the construction. On the first tree, it's clothesline cord looped around a limb, then it's attached with electrical tape to what looks like an old screen door spring thats been stretched out. The other end of the spring is attached to the tape wrapped pvc. It's also attaced to a wire hanging almost to the ground. The second tree is like this except with lamp cord and some single strand wire.

It is common practice when stringing wire shortwave/ham radio antennas that will use trees as supports or end anchor points to use a door spring on the end the wire where it attaches to the tree so that any movement of the tree or wire in the wind will not break the wire.
