im just assuming that once it happened, WWL got their IT to figure out what happened and who did it, who probably hired a forensic firm to do it. The found the IP and phone that did it, and then WWL contacted police to cover their butts before all of this got out.

I believe this is exactly what happened. They did their own investigation, hired a forensic team that found the cellphone evidence, then filed a police report with their findings.

We know who the forensic firm is that they hired and they have a very good rep.
They even went so far as to find video to prove he had his phone with him in his closed door office at the time of the tweet so he couldn't claim that someone else did it from his phone.

NOPD can get warrants for his phone and other digital devices and do a much more thorough check to prove it, and if he did send it, multiple crimes may have been committed.

Absolutely. And, it's looking like it was all part of the plan to extort money based on his homosexuality. So, he decided to slander Brees for personal gain. It's fricked up.
I was thinking about the timing of this whole ordeal and think you may be possibly onto something, but that you may have it a bit backwards.
I suspect, possibly, this guy started getting a pretty big cold shoulder from those in and around the Saints org and elsewhere around town based on his goofy hitjob with regard to Brees' innocent little deal and figured this would be his "out" from New Orleans. It wasn't so much that he intended to do this from the get-go, but he put himself in a situation where this appeared a good option to resolve it.
It baffles me that he could be so stupid as to not see the high potential for it backfiring. Somewhat sadly, I have no doubt he will eventually land a gig elsewhere, though.

Short version - He and his producer picked a fight with the fans over the Brees “bring a Bible to school” stuff and made fun of them after banning them from their discussion group. That is where “pissing off listeners” is coming from.
Since then, he has persisted in a bunch of attacks on WWL, claiming Seth did nothing wrong and that WWL is lying in order to crush Seth’s court case.
A public personality whose father works for WWL and who personally works for WWL’s competition should know better than to bring piss to a shite fight.
