it's very hard to be both
I'd call this about an average SD episode so far
ETA: biggest disappointment to me so far has been the lack of advancement of Hell in a Cell... which is THIS SUNDAY

I think it's this and that's why it seems lackluster for the purists. Fox is trying to attract new viewers and keep them interested, thus the faces winning everything so far, celebrity appearances/involvement
