I just don't see how that is an effective way of learning. Its basically the equivalent of cramming the night before an exam for a class that you haven't kept up with throughout the semester. Sure, you might do well on the test, but you aren't going to retain the info.

This thread is good....helping me work out kinks and new ideas.
4 8 hour days still matches the schedule. The problem is, it seeps into weekdays....
SCRATCH THAT....
NEW FORMAT TIME
Every 1/2 semester before midterms you can take "patchy classes"
Patchy classes are classes that run for 4 hour segments throughout the semester. You need to take half the segments before test 1 (segments 1-4), and the other half before test 2 (segments 5-8). After you take all 8 parts of the class in your own time (when they are offered) then you get credit for the course.
Different faculty teach different portions of the course through the semester. A single faculty will teach their part of the course multiple times through the semester.

No fricking way I'd sit through a 16 hr lecture

That makes much more sense than 16 hour lectures. Have you ever lectured on a topic for 16 hours?

They'd have to hand out adderall at the beginning and half way point.

No. That is my dream though. Like a lock-in where you do a course in a single day.

Yes. Patchy classes is much better. And way more feasible for students, faculty, and material.
I think it might actually be a good idea! It just takes coordination...but that is free! And none is online!
A good idea that is...until you guys give me feedback...

I couldn't have made that jump if not for this thread...you guys were my guys at the brainstorming table, but I just brainstormed and you lightninged the feedback.

I'd be lucky to make 4 hrs then I'm getting the rest of the notes by flirting with the nerdy girl

You never took a lab before?

What labs were 4 hours? We didn't have any of those.

I went to a college with quarter system. Our classes were longer, and labs were 4 hours.

Yeah, I usually spent at least 20 minutes napping during my 3hr lecture classes + the 15 minute break

I guess you've never heard of independent study classes?
You can finish an entire college 3 credit course in a week

Different faculty within the same course sounds like a complete cluster frick, and has been in every instance in which I've ever seen it done.

I guess you've never taken an independent study class. No you can't. You can only turn in so many chapters of work each week, then you have to wait another week to turn in more. It's fricking stupid
