Midland Texas is in the desert and it is not nice. It is a crappy desert.

I’ve been pretty happy in Midland for the past 9 years.

For the same money take Ms. Midland is an expensive shithole. At least Madison is a more affordable shithole.

But really I would do just about anything to avoid both. I quit a job over a midland relo request.

Madison may not be the nicest place in Mississippi, but it is one of the nicest, cheap places in the entire country, from what I can tell.

Just how many nice places are there in MS to say Madison isn’t the nicest in that state but is one of the nicest in the whole country.

People who think Madison is far-and-away the best town in MS have never been to the Mississippi Coast nor have they been to Desoto County or the college towns.

The disadvantage of Madison is that it's in Central Mississippi, and there are very few things to do even right next to the capital city of the state.

There’s some great hunting and fishing within 2hrs from Madison in many directions. I’d take that.

You’re trying hard, but it’s not working. Madison is a nice town, using any metric imaginable.

Just the one. I’ve got a modest place near the Racquet Club. Made a lot of friends and got involved in plenty of organizations.

The shite that Midland gets is that it seems closed off to outsiders. If you invest time and effort, anywhere can be good. Life is what you make of it.

Not even a debate at all. Madison wins by a landslide.

Madison is very nice. Pretty much has everything you’d need in town or nearby towns. Not total BFE like midland. You can be on the coast, Nola or Memphis in a few hours. Also good access to multiple SEC campuses for sports.

I have lived in DeSoto County, Starkville, and Oxford for 20 years. Madison would rank second out of the five, behind Oxford. DeSoto County and the Coast have a lot of trashy pockets and people.

Agree with this for the most part.

I don’t care for the MS Coast, and Desoto County is to Memphis as Rankin County is to Jackson.

Oxford is pretty smooth living if you can handle the occasional chaos of the school. You can plan around it pretty easily.

It’s in central Mississippi. It’s handicapped so severely by being affiliated with Jackson that it could never hope to overcome that.

Living in west texas just seems like a level of purgatory.

It depends on what part of West Texas. The Permian basin area is absolutely purgatory but Abilene, San Angelo and Sweetwater seem decent.
