Huh? I don't know what your experience has been. If it's personal, I'm sorry to hear that.

My experience: I'm in my mid-30s, I was born and raised in very red South La into a huge Catholic family. I've been out for nearly 15 years, and I've never had a single issue personally or professionally with anyone shunning me because I'm gay.

Some gays like to play the victim card, but in all honesty, we aren't victims unless we try to be.

Also, of all my gay friends my age, none have experienced what you've described.

Being a well respected, courteous, and productive member of society is so much more important to the general population than who you go to bed with.

You have to admit there is some truth to what she said. There is a double standard.

For example, compare how a single male in his mid 30s is looked upon by society compared to a single female in her mid 30s.

One is generally well received or at least not stigmatized, and the other is viewed as damaged goods no one must want.

Eh. I’d say the segment of society that stigmatizes the single 30 year old woman would also stigmatize the single 30 year old male.

Obviously the thoughts are not the same, but I’d say they are still stigmatized.
