When were we ever under threat by the NVA?

This is all the Frenchs failed colonialism fault, first and foremost. Nothing patriotic about it.

The deadfall bamboo covered in feces traps would've sucked though.

That's a whole different discussion and one that I likely agree with you. This thread is about dodging the draft.

True. It just makes me extremely uncomfortable with how easy some of these posters think going to and coming back from war is. So much macho bravado testosterone in this thread.

I don't think there's anything wrong with dodging a draft in which there's no shirt or long term benefits for us.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, and I won't pretend to know what Vietnam was like, but I've done my deployment time and I'm not coming from a place of total naivety.

Have to disagree with that one. I couldn't look at that wall in DC and know that one of those names might be on there because I had other shite to do.

True. Respect your service. When I was young I dreamed of being in the military and as I got older I sort of steered myself away.

But you're right. I couldn't sleep at night knowing somebody else died in what should have been my position. You fight for the man on the side of you.

I would never go overseas to fight for another country's "freedom." I wouldn't run though.

I would have joined the Air Force or gotten my college bachelors and went in as an officer in the Air Force .

Went into the Marines in 1975. Was willing to go, but the shite was over for the most part.

I joined the service in 81 when I was 17. I was a little shithead and probably shouldn't have joined. I have an uncle that came back and has been practically a hermit since. I'm pretty sure I would've gone. It wasn't a great time to be in the service but I was in the cycle at fort Jackson that included girls training with guys for the first time. The DI's were particularly brutal to the women.

I'm not ashamed to admit I would have dodged. Screw fighting someone else's war.

I guess.Impossible for me to know for sure.I'd like to think I would have.

I was born in 1961 so when I was in Grade School guys 10 years older than me had their Draft Card.

I didn't know it til later but a guy that lived on our block. Was friends with my buddy's brother, took off for Canada.Don't think he ever came back.
