I drove a dookie brown '91 for several years. Tough trucks. The oil jobber who serviced our farm filled the gas tank with diesel and the diesel tank with gas. I filled it up one morning and drove it 80 miles on diesel. It ran pretty rough, lol, but it ran. About a year later they filled the tank with 80% water. It made it out to the gate and died. I had to change inline filters under that truck about every 200 miles afterwards until I got sick of that and traded it.

Had a buddy that had one in high school. Those things were so damn top heavy... if you cut the wheel too hard, you'd swear it was going to flip!

Little known fact… one of Japans contributions to Desert Shield were these vehicles. They docked a ship full of them in Al Dammam I think it was and just gave them away to the military folks. Anyone high enough up the food chain was riding around in these instead of Hummers.
These things were everywhere. I assume they just left them all there when we came back.

As basic as they are, I am sure they are more comfortable in the desert than the Humvees of that era.

Did it get hit by a grocery cart left un attended?
LOL..I was at a Kroger in a small strip mall by my house. There was some construction near where I parked. Come out and a huge steel beam had fallen on top of my car and a few others. It smashed down right on top of the hood messed up the whole engine compartment

High center of gravity + a soft, cheap suspension.
A lot of SUVs were not well thought out from that perspective. Sort of low budget design.

I had a friend that owned that model in college. It was a damn tank.
Hell yes IWDI.

I did in 1997. It was gutless but stone cold reliable. Sold it for something more fun.

I own a pajero 2017, it’s reliable and great offroad. Have had two, both the large and small engine - either are good.

Friend of mine had one like this for running around in because it was better on gas and cheap to work on than his F250

I'd drive most PRE-2000 vehicles over the crap they sell today.
Give me a truck with a carburetor and no f'ing "computer"!

Monteros are notoriously prone to rollovers.

Get an Isuzu Trooper around the same year.
And as for the rear main seal leaking...Tahoes are also notorious for that. Not just Japanese SUVs

heck yeah! Suzukui Samauri and the Isuzu Amigo. Two tiny little things that looked like serious fun for a low budget. Rag them out and not feel bad about it.
