re: Would It Really Be In The Best Interest Of Law Enforcement If There Were No Illegal Drugs?

100%. The legalization of marijuana has basically taken the cartels out of that market all together. They have mostly moved on to other illegal substances thanks to cheaper prices and a market flooded with product. Also, lets say the legalize something like heroin. Price drops, overdoses plummet due to safer product, black market violence is massively reduced. Punish those who break the law due to drugs, not those who simply do drugs. I've never touched a hard drug, but if someone is doing heroin inside of their home, not hurting anyone else, IMO they should not be subject to arrest.

That's cool as long as you cut all the safety nets as well.
No reason to spend tax money on the consequences for a someones choice to use drugs.
You want to use drugs...then take the responsibility and consequences for your choices.

OK...as long as tax payers don't have to pay for their rehab or subsidize them for their bad choice.
I disagree with the idea that you have the right to screw up your life but entitled to taxpayers being forced to fix it or subsidize it.

The taxpayer is doing that right now, as well as has pumped a trillion dollars into this losing war.
People fear change, even when the status quo is a disaster.

Same outcome I suppose.
Yep, addicts still need money to purchase “legal” drugs. Robbing, murder,.....will still be happening. However, it may subdue dealer on dealer killings.

Illegal drugs support a huge economy for police, jails, lawyers, judges, DEA, etc. etc.
These people suck the tit provided by illegal drugs.

Only cannabis should be legalized.
Anything that can kill you needs some regulation, but jail shouldnt be a main alternative to minor possessions.

Not trying to be rude here, but that is a short sided argument.
You're paying for them now without the benefit of tax revenue that legalizing would bring. Right now those people are 100% loss in legal revenue, legalization would create a MASSIVE net gain. Better schools, roads, salaries for law enforcement, etc... Billions of dollars going to criminals would then be going to legal business owners and tax programs. Profit > 100% loss.

Sorry....I don't see the reason to subsidize someone for using a legal product.
Tax payers shouldn't be on the hook to help fat people lose weight.
Tax payers shouldn't be on the hook to help tobacco users stop using tobacco.
Tax payers shouldn't be on the hook to help alcoholics stop drinking.
And Tax payers shouldn't be on the hook to help drug addicts stop using drugs if said drugs are legal.
You want help...pay for it yourself or find a charity that wants to help you.
And its your responsibility to get your life back on track...not tax payers.
The gov't shouldn't be in the business of subsidizing poor life choices.

I think “law enforcement” is not one monolithic bloc of people who all believe the same thing. I’m sure many LEO would truly love to have all illegal drugs disappear. Others probably enjoy the drug war.
I’ve known many cops, prosecutors, and judges in Louisiana who wish marijuana at least would be legalized.

Seriously, this is a legit question. With all the crime created by illegal drugs, it seems like legalizing drugs would be better than keeping them illegal.
And if it can be provided to users so they know exactly what they are getting you don't have nearly as many people ODing because they are not aware of exactly what they are getting on the street.
I am not saying there is away to completely fix things, but it seems like there are different ways to approach the issue, yet this "war on drugs" continue and no real changes that go into how it is faught.

Disagree. I feel psychedelics and certain other drugs like MDMA do have legitimate medicinal use.

Agreed. Let’s get rid of bankruptcy and phase out social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all the other consumer protection laws, right? Fair debt collection laws? Who needs them? If someone doesn’t pay their bills, let the collection agencies harass them endlessly?
Right?

Of course. Why do you think departments and the police unions always come out against any sort of drug legalization or loosening on drug laws? They even fight against legalization of marijuana despite several States legalizing it and the majority of American standing for legalization.
Like any other group of people, they don't serve the public they serve themselves. Just look at all the scare tactic bullshite The Expressway Commission put out when ALL THE PEOPLE in south Louisiana wanted to eliminate the tolls on the Crescent City Connection. I thought that bridge should have fallen into the river by now. Looks like it's doing just fine.
Government only has one objective. To grow. It's our job to constantly remind them who they work for and to tamp them down.

It's a manner of method. Do you stop the robbing and killing or stop the root cause?
Blue laws. There's no crime until there's an actual victim. Preventive legislation is part of the reason this country is so fricked up. For there to be a crime there has to be a victim. Any laws written without this in mind stands in contrast to Liberty and everything this country was founded on and stands for.
