seems a couple years ago they were all over the boards here laughing at everyone else who had $300 electric bills and they were so much smarter for having a marketplace to buy energy from.

I hate to break your heart but the hottest June's in 20 years and it hasn't hit $300.

Those $9,000 per MWh rates during the chilly spell in Feb 2021 broke the giddy Griddy customers.

You're smarter than this.

I live in the Spring/Woodlands area north of Houston. I use 4change energy. My contract ends in February. I signed up for a 2 year plan. We have a single story, 1,800sq ft house with just me and my wife, both retired so we are at home all day long. Thermostat is set at 70 at night and 75 during the day. 4change will send you a weekly e mail showing you your projected bill.

My usage last week was 440 kwh at a cost of $49.43 with a projected monthly bill of $229.96.

3800sq.’ here, two central units and I keep it cold enough to hang meat, most recent bill was $227, it won’t get higher than that, after August/September it will be under $100 till next summer, what’s your point?

I've been in Texas for ~9 years. I've never seen a $20 electricity bill (unless it was the 1st bill in a contract that had a promo credit applied).

You can play the game here of trying to stay below/above certain kWh usages to get/avoid credits/charges with 6 month plans (which I've done in the past) and you used to be able to get really good rates this way. I would have a 6 month sub-1000kWh plan for the late fall thru early spring then a higher base kWh plan for late spring they early fall. I got tired of being stressed about keeping my usage in check and just opted for a long plan with a middle of the road rate.

You might be correct in that the new contract prices do suck arse. However they are still better than being on a variable rate plan (which is what happened to the people getting the insane bills during the freezes).

However I still have about a year on my current plan and enjoy paying $0.092/kWh. Last bill was $192 for 2100 kWh.

25yo house, 2700SF, 2 ACs, and home all day comfortable
