I think the fact that he said that females should face some kind of punishment for having abortions was hallmark moment as far as the abortion issue goes.

As a white heterosexual male, I just don't see it. It's definitely fair (and wholly accurate) to say they've focused their campaigning and tailor their platforms excessively to marginalized groups and have in many ways lost touch with the average white guy (see: election results). But I just don't see this "demonization" on a grand scale.

Again Trump is not a politician and was kinda lost in debating at that time. Maybe it is thought process I don't know but no one can honestly believe that in this day and age with Women in high places and in his own party that this would be allowed. There is a voting process in this country and each state if the vote is for it or against its up to the people to decide not the President.

Isn't that kind of out of context? Wasn't the actual conversation along the lines that he was morally against it, but legally he took exception to SCOTUS overruling the states laws in Roe v Wade. The whole punishment thing arose from if Roe v Wade were overturned and states made it illegal then they should face punishment for it?

Then why even put that kind of rhetoric out there in the first place?
Posted on 1/24/17 at 11:08 am to JBeam
Because he knew a lot of his supporters would like it. He's not dumb. Quite the opposite.

Women's suffrage groups, BLM, and Immigration groups all specifically point to white men as the largest issue and the root of their problems. I understand the kowtowing of the party you feel you align with to groups that demonize you as the vain of their existence is difficult for you to wrap your head around. I'm not saying they demonize them individually, but yes these groups who are the vocal, whether minority or not, center of the new democratic party see the hetero white male as the road block between them and a Utopian society.

Lol. frick the Democratic Party. I in no way shape or form associate with them. Nice try though. But, yeah, it's fun to pretend that any social movement not involving white people is out to get you, though. It's fun to be on a team.

As mentioned Trump played to a Conservative base that has been neglected for 8 years. He knew that that why he said that I am guessing.

So you are trying to say unequivocally that there is not a demonetization of the white male by these groups? Specifically women's suffrage, BLM, and the immigration groups?

Fair enough. But I think that kind of rhetoric sends red flags to certain people.
Posted on 1/24/17 at 11:16 am to AwesomeSauce
Unequivocally? No. There are always bad eggs in a group/movement that tend to distract people on the other side from the true objectiive. Of course there are people involved in these social movements that want to demonize white people and believe their problems are due to white people. But to act like it's at the heart of them is disingenuous.

as a guy that has a daughter, and wants her to be empowered, respected, and viewed as an equal, i appreciate the IDEA behind what they were doing... its just the way they went about it and the mixed message they basically sent....
i do want strong female voices fighting for equality, rights, and respect, but there has to be better way than the way it went down...

did you see the speeches by madonna and ashley judd? should they be considered role models? there is so much hypocrisy with everything about that march it isn't even worth discussing.
Most of the women really couldn't answer why they were marching...they were just against trump. Where were these women when Clinton was in office?

I saw part of the Ashley Judge speech. Sounded like she was auditioning for a part in a movie.

I think that may be where our disconnect is. You freely admit that the Democratic party has kowtowed to the vocal minority within in it, but don't concede the groups opinion to what may be the vocal minority within it. When a network creates a show calling out a specified demographic, when outrage and animosity flows due to skin color in a news story, then I think dismissing their voices is being disingenuous.
I'm not saying that everyone associated with the group harbors animosity, but rather due to the attitude of the groups and their "inclusiveness" they do not effectively quell the opposition of a set demographic. If you allow the dialogue to come out without quashing it, then you are enabling it and accepting of it.
