You couldnt keep the bat and test it for Rabies?

If you could catch it within a very short period of time. I think you have twenty four hours from the time you see it in your room, or your child's room, to catch it.
Now, the dead one hanging from the curtain you could test that one. But can you be sure that that's the one that you actually saw flying in your room... Once you show rabies signs, you're done. So, I would get the shots regardless.

Since the bat came after me mid-afternoon, I knew during the attack that it was likely rabid. It was a Seminole Bat, which is a solitary bat so I didn't have to worry about a rabid horde of bats.

The shots are no longer a big deal. You get four, in the arm. They were not bad at all. The rabies immunoglobulin that they inject into each potential bite spot sucks, and bat bites are hard to discern so I got blasted a lot LOL.
