Is there a Krewe that has free throws or something? I invested a lot in mine. :/

Google shows address as 2828 Freret which is the projects. One site said she was Caucasian, but not sure if that is accurate.

There is a FB post by an old black lady looking for her family. She is supposedly really good friends with Geraldine "Puggie" Turner Carmouche.

Many women fly in from other places and don’t have the benefit of a local Nyx Mister to assist them.

This seems to defeat the purpose of Mardi Gras. Y’all just accept applications from people who aren’t local? Just basically if you have money and know somebody

My cousin, born and raised in NOLA, moved to ATL after Katrina and flies in.

So you’re telling me that people who create the custom throws like muses and Zulu aren’t producing them their selves?

Come on dude. Of course the "custom" throws are made by the riders. My fried ladies have been working for months decorating the purses and shoes they throw.
The out of town folks do this too.

They also spend a shitton of money buying beads, cups, and all kinds of nice throws from local places.

I met a woman last night born and raised in Nola and living in Houston. I assume she flew in. It was her first parade ride since 1998. ¯\_(?)_/ I kind of love that people come from everywhere. On parade day, we’re all local.

I also had a family member fly in from Houston. From NOLA as well.

Like 90% if not all of my throws are specific to my float, but all I do is pay the money when it shows a balance on my account. We have a float specific, mandatory throw package that gets loaded for us. You can buy stuff on top of that if you want, but it's mostly specific to our float.

Moral of the story is I'm not producing shite.

We were just informed the deceased is a relative of two Nyx sisters.

Well that’s fine. Moral of my story is I don’t join a Krewe because I don’t live in Nola area and I’d feel like an interloper just paying money and showing up once a year.

Works for others, don’t work for me.

My friends dad rides in Bacchus and he's helping with things on the floats every weekend leading up to the big day.

he email sent out to us from the director of security said that the cops are supposedly very serious about it and are under pressure to ID anyone throwing the bags. $500 fine, removal from the float, and arrest.

Now whether it's a real threat or he's just making sure we all know what might happen is up for debate.

I saw people chucking bags last night.

Most lived in NOLA or Louisiana and moved out. I know 1 guy who never lived there who rides, but he's in town for business all the time and has ridden 30+ years.

custom throws

They’re custom and handmade. I believe most, but not all, riders make their own. I make my own purses. There are local artisans who create and sell custom glittered throws (grails, purses, shoes, etc.)

It’s a complicated system, but there’s an entire industry for Mardi Gras throws in New Orleans. One company provides the vast majority of krewe-themed packages. Each krewe decides what those packages include and whether they are mandatory or optional.

On top of packages, riders can purchase extras. There are dozens of local stores selling all manner of novelties to throw in parades. Every rider, local or not, purchases hundreds or thousands of dollars in throws. They purchase from local businesses. It infuses the local economy.

I guess I get that. If you know someone who rides, see if they can get you in. I've flown in a cousin from Portland and a friend from Denver to come ride.

But yeah, a lot of the fun of being in a krewe is the activities that happen all year, not just the ride itself. The ride is pretty damn awesome though.
