You live 81 years on this planet, probably a good salt of the Earth person, and get killed by a flying tow hitch driving down the road. Who says God doesn't still have a good Old Testament sense of humor?

Bless her heart.

With my luck, I'd get killed by a pair of those fricking truck balls. The ultimate indignation.

There was a case in Minnesota where a woman rented a Uhaul trailer and didn't secure it properly. It detached and killed an occupant of the car behind her. She was convicted of negligence and given a 90 day suspended sentence.

That pin is pretty heavy duty. Either Way, i use a master lock pin to prevent theft.

I use a master lock pin as well. But the pin should never really have any pressure on it in the first place, and it definitely never has the full load of the trailer on it unless something has really gone wrong.

An 18 wheeler flung a large piece of sheet metal
I almost got hit while driving west on the Miss River Bridge in BR. A big rig headed east hit what must have been a spare tire also from a big truck and flipped it pretty high into the air. He had to have caught it just right. I could see it spinning and coming my way but couldn't bail out as there was no place to go. Couldn't slam my brakes or swerve as traffic was too heavy. It felt watching in slow motion as it came down and hit just ahead of me and the next lane (also with a car there), then bounce and fly over the side of the bridge.

Me and the guy next to me both stopped in Port A to do roadside laundry on our boxers.

I was a passenger in a vehicle on I-70 in Denver and this exact thing nearly happened to us. We saw the hitch come out of the truck travelling in front of us and it started skidding wildly on the interstate. It caught something in the highway and flew over our car. Luckily there was nobody behind us.

When I was in college, I pulled a trailer to school one day because I was picking up a new 4wheeler after school.

For safety, I parked between the union and the building dorectly across from it on tower drive. I figured I'd take a ticket over having a traioer stolen. Walked out of class and walked up to my vehicle and something made me check out the hitch.

Someone had loosened my trailer hitch ball to the point of it almost coming off. I know it was tight when I got there because it didn't sway or make a sound in 40 miles.

Someone on the grounds crew or someone who carried a large set of channel locks in their truck did it as a prank. Someone easily could have died.

A week and a half ago I was on the interstate and a jacked up truck traveling that opposite direction had its front driver side wheel break off the axel. It bounced over the divider and landed on the hood of my truck. I thought I was about to die.

not to mention the 10,000 pounds that's tugging on it from behind...

but yea, I have the same technology on my rig
