Why is the National Merit Scholarship Corporation too cheap to notify the students individually?

This is your takeaway from the article? Really- this is who your hold your anger for?
If you read the articles and attached emails, you'd know the National Merit Scholarship Corporation doesn't communicate to students directly. Schools package up all their students' applications and submits them at once. After review, the Corporation responds back to the school with one return of successful winners. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation awards 50,000 winners a year. It's easier to notify schools of their winners than tracking down each individual student.
Further, as the pissed off parent noted in her email to school staff-.
quote:
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has never notified students of their Letters of Commendation via email and their organization is completely separate from College Board. They also confirmed that College Board does not and could not provide notification via email because the National Merit Scholarship Corporation does not provide that information to College Board.
