WM woman accused of setting 4 fires because she 'needed help'

A West Monroe woman is facing multiple charges of arson after she allegedly set fires to attract the attention of law enforcement.

According to an arrest report for Melissa Brast, age 43, deputies with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Louisiana 151 in Calhoun on Saturday after the fire department called because a woman accused of setting fires was acting crazy.

Deputies arrived at the scene and saw Brast standing on the side of the road next to a bridge and asked her to come back across the bridge to speak to them.

Brast complied and told deputies she set the fires because she needed help. She said she was brought to the area by another person, the property owner's son, and they used "meth" all night.
