No.

The answer is: There is no evolutionary pressure for it to be faster.

Well due to improved nutrition and health, humans grow to be larger and thus have larger babies. That is just a fact.

Correct.

Necessity would force the hand of evolution, but it hasn't needed to.

Also, if people would stop banging the fat and ugly the overall population should improve in appearance and health.

And if you'd quit banging your fraternity brothers and went to class, you'd probably not start ridiculous threads.

we'll lose our pinky finger before we lose our pinky toe, or so geneticists tell me

Right. People fail to understand that evolution isn't an "active" process for lack of a better word. It's all chance. And modern medicine has taken a lot of the selectivity out of the equation. Now it's all about whether changes in genotype help you get laid more frequently.

Yeaaaaa buddy.

Yep. It's been shown that baby Chimps are smarter and much more capable than baby humans at a certain age. Its like 5 months before a baby realizes that if something is out of view doesn't mean its completely disappeared. Chimps realize that at a younger age.

Humans quest for gold (money) is highly motivational. The pressure to earn the money can spurn athletic growth.

Humans are not evolving. Everyone survives long enough to make babies. Health care on the other hand...

Clearly, humans get bigger, stronger, faster each decade that passes. A 7 ft. player in basketball was a big deal when I was a kid. Now, every team has one and some have multiple. Football and track athletes break speed records each year.

It is amazing to see how athletes have changed just in the past 30 or so years. Not long ago I caught the 82 Iron Bowl (Bo Over the Top) on ESPN Classic. One thing that stuck out to me was how when they introduced both offensive lines at the start of the game, all the linemen weighted in the mid-200's like 250 or so. Now tailbacks are bumping the size of what use to be offensive linemen.

Your genetics don't automatically adjust so that you'll grow to be 7'0" and have the opportunity to earn millions. For the most part professional athletes are genetic freaks that happened to win the genetic lottery. Usually their parents were nothing special, and their kids end up being above average but nothing really special. Athletes also make up such a small part of the gene pool that they themselves have virtually no effect on the average height of the population. The reason why we have so many NBA players at such exceptional heights are A) better nutrition so that more of our population pool can reach its genetic potential and B) we now incorporate the rest of the world into our pro leagues.

Even if we were to breed the best genetics with the best genetics, it would take many generations of selective breeding to really bring about any substantial change. Typically when a child is born from exceptional parents, there's a regression to the mean for the child, i.e. the child will most likely be above average in some particular ability but will not be as exceptional as his/her parents.

Most athletes are poor, inner-city kids. They did not have good nutrition growing up. If anything, they were hindered.
