This was a medical call so generally EMS and Fire may be on scene before officers and start to treat the patient. Im more surprised that the gun wasnt found when medics first started to asses the man.

A basic, non invasive pat frisk while the guy was unconscious could have prevented this but the legality of doing such a search on someone that isnt suspected of committing a crime is a slippery slope.

The most alarming thing to me is when the suspect backed away drawing his weapon he fumbled with it for a moment getting it un-holstered. Due to his behavior I feel one of the officers on scene should have been positioned and ready for the possible threat.

Of course im just analyzing the crap out of it and nit picking. Truth is, some times bad shite just happens

How would you feel if you found out that 20 minutes ago he was ODing on a bus and the police just let him walk on down the street?

Would suck but I also understand that a person being treated for a medical issue isnt subject to a search. While a non invasive pat frisk would have discovered a gun on a hip, one better concealed may not be found.

The thing is, when someone is truly "addicted", you can take away whatever substance and get over the acute withdrawals - but then there is a period, sometimes up to two years, of "post acute withdrawals" - essentially peoples brains trying to get back up to speed. Long term addiction literally re-wires the brain and you aren't getting serotonin, dopamine and other brain chems like a normal, functional human
Well yeah.

People decide to enjoy their drugs so often for so long that it alters the chemistry of their body. Those are really poor decisions.

So addicts undergo a long, long period of hopelessness, depression, malaise and when the brain is in that kind of depressed mode, not seeing any way out, a lot return to drugs
Why?

Well the internet is filled with armchair doctors, lawyers, scientists, athletes, etc.

It’s hilarious because these people don’t do research of their own, refuse to believe any of the current research out there, and often have no experience of their own. Yet they know what they’re talking about.

No it's not. Not in medicine.
in true medicine it is. All of these "Centers" has accepted it to appease the people. Just how some boards are starting to "accept" there being more that 2 genders. When science specifically states there are 2.

You cannot win as a cop in these situations. Shoot him immediately because you KNOW that the bulge COULD be a gun. Play it safe and allow him to fire first. And of course no one expects a man to start shooting at people who just revived him.

Why didn't they search him while he was out?

Are you really trying to argue with me on my friend being a good person? Did he make an arse out of himself while in active addiction, for sure. But you don't even know him.

quote:

are you that jaded? Of course no one has done less because they didn't know about it. But it is a fact they have done more because they did know about it. The way you worded your statement is reminiscent of an addict that knows he is going out to use and tells everyone he is going to church.

I was answering another posters question. Again, try to keep up.

Heroin addicts hate narcan, it's basically their kryptonite, it blocks the receptors in your brain so you can't get high a few hours. They do everything in their power to avoid Narcan as it does nothing but ensure they cannot get high for about half a day. You have no clue what you are talking about and it's obvious

I’d like to avoid the disease of addiction.

Do you know of any ways that I can avoid it?

Do you think cancer is also not a disease?

Wouldn't we all. The fact that you guys think that addicts want to be addicts just shows your ignorance. No one wakes up and wants to be an addict. That person OD'ing and shooting up in the bathroom of a filthy gas station just wants the same feeling you get from a beer or a joint.

OK sure bro, again I have no clue why out of everything in this thread you picked that one line to argue with. You are just going out of your way to be an a-hole

Sure, cancer is a disease if that’s what people want to label it as. Same with addiction. I don’t care what we call these things.

Now can you give me some ways to avoid addiction please?
