Just sayin you should expect more from your government services. We had ice storms many times up north but they never shut down a state for days
We dont put our resources and tax payer money into something that happens every 3-4 years and now happening twice in 5 days. If it were a common problem you would see a change on how we handle this for the time being it is what its and our state puts the resources into more common threats.

Honest question, Louisiana should spend hundreds of millions of dollars for something that happens once every 30 years?

There's not much you can do with ice. About the best you can do is have established snow routes with proper signage.

Road salt is not table salt
Also spreading equipment, graders, etc. we have some of it, but not enough to clear thousands of miles of roads in a short timespan

Wikipedia:
De-icing of roads has traditionally been done with salt, spread by snowplows or dump trucks designed to spread it, often mixed with sand and gravel, on slick roads. Sodium chloride (rock salt) is normally used, as it is inexpensive and readily available in large quantities. However, since salt water still freezes at -18 °C or 0 °F, it is of no help when the temperature falls below this point. It also has a strong tendency to cause corrosion, rusting the steel used in most vehicles and the rebar in concrete bridges. More recent snowmelters use other salts, such as calcium chloride and magnesium chloride, which not only depress the freezing point of water to a much lower temperature, but also produce an exothermic reaction. They are somewhat safer for concrete sidewalks, but excess should still be removed.

Please consult something other than Wikipedia for your information. Road salt is not just table salt

This thread has turned into lets bash the south for closing down for ice/snow and now approaching conspiracy about "salt" instead of an informative thread on threats and closures

Just sand bridges and intersections. They used to do it in Shreveport. Really doesn't help much but relieves the city of some liability.

They just showed a hotel impossible episode in Juneau. The Alaskan Hotel and Bar.
Bar manager got canned for being a dick. You know him?

Honestly, we all know it won't be an ice rink. Just drive with 15% more courtesy and attention. You will not die or kill others if you don't drive like an a-hole.

Don't care to look up the chemicals that are added to it?

Of course! Big O bought a salt mine and a dump truck to make sure it stayed accessible.
