Could the bullets have been slowed down by the plastic and leather upholstery and all the stuff that's in the door behind the metal?
a straight shot at the door would most likely tear through, though

How would you know who the off duty cop is?

lots of things could've happened, that's why I said it's unlikely instead of impossible. I've taken courses shooting in, from, and around vehicles, and, they almost always go straight through. that's why you're trained not to take cover behind vehicle doors.
also depends on the kind of load that ol' boy was shooting. lots of things come into play. what you said could be exactly right though, could've hit some internal mechanisms, etc. guess we'll find out later

In June 2013, Hayes rejected a plea offer from prosecutors. Finally, in January 2014 he pleaded guilty to a reduced weapons charge and to a count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a suspended six-month sentence, records show.

Pretty sure there was a pic taken an hour or so before this happened (maybe it was on the Saints board??) but it looks like the same guy sitting as one of the 3 on the sidewalk. To me the other thread said retired Police something or other.

Not really sure. The first arrest they talked about in the article was in like 2010. If so, he drug it out for 4 years and went from a 5 year suspended sentence to a 6 month suspended sentence, which you spend no time in jail for
Yeah, looks like the same incident. Idk how the drugs and weapon magically disappeared, but they did

Hayes has one previous arrest, on Aug. 1, 2010, court records show. Hayes was charged with illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal possession of codeine and possession of drug paraphernalia, among other charges. He pleaded guilty in June 2012 to a weapons charge and the possession of codeine, and received a 5-year prison sentence that was immediately suspended. But Hayes withdrew his guilty plea the following month, records show.

I find it funny you've taken it to a personal level

I'd rather take the chance behind something than stand out in the open....if I'm gonna be getting shot at. Yeah, bullets can go through a door skin, but you don't know what else they'll hit and maybe stop or deflect from

One of the defendants named in the lawsuit Hayes filed against the city was Billy Ceravolo, who retired from the NOPD in 2013. Ceravolo was with Smith Saturday night at dinner just before he was shot.

So basically the shooter and Will knew each other and probably had some I of altercation. The accident was probably done on purpose to get him to stop.
