I'd see unification happening before liberation, and by unification I mean the North retaking the South. If a conflict were to break out, the American populace would want to stay neutral and by the time we intervene it'll be too late.

It's ironic really, officially its an atheist state but the gov't there is literally worshiped like a church and their dictator is their god. North Korea and the Mideast is what happens with theocratic rule.

Literally the worst place on Earth with no free speech rights and no flow of free information and they force their subjugated citizens to see their dictators as gods/deities.

Yes. The Chinese are about fed up with them and the country is near ruin. Either the country is liberated by its failure as a state or, the Chinese somehow force reform, which would weaken the family dynasty.

It's a matter of time once the Chinese say frick it. But I wouldn't expect a South Korean style democracy to take its place, however.

You can't liberate a population that doesn't want to be liberated.

The power vacuum that will be created will be worse than what we created by taking out Sadaam in Iraq.

Unifying Korea is the only answer, but China is not going to allow S. Korea and the U.S. to be the lead.

Holy shite this.

We need to learn our lessons from Vietnam and wars in the mideast. You can't give an indigenous people freedom and liberty, they have to earn that for themselves as its the only way it will stick.

Assuming there's nothing from china controlling it, right?

This. It's not sustainable. All the posturing will aggravate South Korea enough into an all-out attack, and/or China has enough of their shite and lets South Korea have at them.

Generous stipends to citizens from all that oil money. I don't think a citizen from those countries has to work to life comfortably. They import all their labor.

North Korea will keep on maintaining the status quo until their people either revolt or an outside power takes over. Either way is gonna end in blood
