Will land line phones make a comeback?
I don't think so. Every single time in the past that I tried to get a landline, the only calls I ever got on it was telemarketers. At all hours of the day. Between the previous owners of the phone number and me, it got to the point of being unbearable that I just got rid of the landline.

As far as running telephone cable, yes. Do it. It's a lot easier to do it now, rather than selling your home one day and the buyer realizing that there's no phone lines ran and having to do it then.

If I had small kids at home I would. Kids that aren’t old enough to have a cel phone, but that understand to dial 911 if there’s an emergency

A landline is useful in the event of a hurricane because FEMA and Homeland Security restrict cell usage to texting as per Katrina and Gustav. If you nave relatives in- and outside the US without cell phones, a landline is a great asset to let them know things are.

Had friends with no cell service for two weeks after Katrina. but they had a land line and it worked. We have a landline for 911 service, my wife has had health issues and she wants to make sure they can find her if she is unable to speak.

Don’t be such an a-hole.

If telling someone to back up their statement is being an a-hole snowflake then I’ll be one. However, no ones installing phone lines now for a reason. Most builders arent going to let you go crawling around, and working, on a home they’re building due to liability to run wire. Some will I’m sure, but most wont. If it makes you feel better to run archaic lines though it’ll cost you $500-$1000 to do it.

We did not run them when we built our house in 2014. Have not missed phone lines yet.

Not if your builder does it it won’t. Guaranteed. CAT6 wire run on 2500-3000 SF will be $750-$1000. If he did it for $20 he was allowed to run it himself and bought a spool of wire.

$20 to run cable in a hot attic for a project that will take a few hours at best? Screw that. I'm about to run cable myself next weekend and no way I'd ever do it for $20. Maybe $20 an hour for a friend but not just $20.

Still pisses me off my ex took my crimpers. What the hell is she going to use them for?

As much as I used to hate to hear the dam thing ring, Just yesterday I was thinking how good it would be to not have to carry a phone around.

The ONLY reason I still have a landline is for safety reasons. JUST IN CASE cell phone towers go out or something.

Same here. It might ring once or twice a week and usually an 800 number.

You’re better off running cat 5 cabble through the house and going voip if you need a phone other than your mobile. No, landlines will never make a comeback,

Does your phone provider even use residential land line anymore? Last time we had a package deal through TWC the phone line provided to us was VOIP based.

My wife has major health issues from a traumatic brain injury in 1992, that's why we still have our landline.
