Will China’s economy surpass ours due to covid 19?

Half of China's GDP is from exports, so I'd say no. This assumes they've been telling the truth.

I understand but should we give it up so easily in such a short period of time.

If China - an authoritarian 1984 style regime - surpasses us, how many deaths are worth it to prevent this.

The best possible outcome of this is if our country gets over itself in regards to this “evolved serviced based economy” and gets itself off the Chinese teat and manufactures stuff for ourselves again.

Don’t know the answer, but I sure hope China’s factories start working overtime and consume oil like never before.

They play the long game- they will be stable under a dictator while we flip flop in democracy. They’ve been steadily moving up in GDP since the 80s. At some point we will stagnate and they will pass us. They own too many countries now. Of course I hope it never happens but it probably will at some point unless something catastrophic happens to China. We can only hope

They will one day. 1.5 billion vs less than 400 million. Their gdp will exceed ours in the next 10 years. But the US will have a larger per capita

You really believe China's underlying politics is stable?

You're ignoring the entire history and culture of the way China has worked.

Several prognosticators have already predicted China won't be unified within the next decade.
