Yeah I agree there was some rain up around Leesville earlier not sure if that was the culprit or not

There is an evacuation of a nursing home in Leesville.

*** UPDATE***
As of this update all every evacuation order, voluntary and mandatory, remain in place with an extra emphasis on the areas along Seth Cole Rd down to Graybow. We’ve had LEO’s in the area this afternoon going door to door to remind and warn residents throughout this area. Forestry reported that they stayed focused on the area north and northeast of Merryville towards Junction and east covering the Nichols Sibley Rd area with all the connecting roads throughout all the way to Seth Cole. We can not emphasize enough of how the wind and dry vegetation is energizing this section of the fire pushing it east. Please heed the mandatory evacuation. Forestry reported that besides the Tiger Island portion of this fire event seven other fires popped up in the parish with indecent fire fighting assets addressed and either extinguished or contained for now.
Since this morning’s update they can not give a definitive number on the percentage of containment but do not feel like its lower than the estimate from this morning. It is estimated that there are 18-22 structures lost at this time with no injuries or human loss. We are expecting extra strike teams from Tennessee and Oklahoma that should be boots on the ground tomorrow. Forestry and National Guard bulldozer assets plan on working throughout tonight cutting lanes to assist containment. This fire is very large and growing and has burned approximately 50,000-60,000 acres so far and moving. We can not express this enough PLEASE TAKE THE EVACUTION ORDERS SERIOUSLY. We do this for your best interest and utmost safety. We still have two shelters available at the First Methodist Church and First Baptist Church in DeRidder.

50,000-60,000 acres unbelievable that means in the last 24 hrs it’s burned an additional 30,000 acres

Wildfire Aware reports 43 responders to battle the fire. That number seems low considering the lack of containment that has progressed.

Yeah I just wonder if it’s not threatening anything right now are they pulling resources/firefighters to other fires like the one in north of Leesville

That number is the resource personnel that are ordered to that fire There are probably hundreds of volunteers that are helping
Resources are very thin right now due to fires all over

Buddy of mine that works for forest service in Arkansas says a forest service incident management team is now taking over. Says they have been asked to send people but they are dry and battling fires up there plus several of them just got back from fires in Montana.

Yeah that’s what I’m afraid of. If you look at a nationwide map there’s so many wildfires that resources have to be thin all over

If you want a really good rundown of the wildland firefighting around the country, listen to a podcast called The Hot Shot Wakeup. He's a former hotshot who knows a good deal. He gives a rundown on major fires each week.
He also covers a lot of ins and outs of wildland firefighting.

?????BURN BAN FACTS????? We want to address some common questions about the SFM's updated burn ban on 8/25/23, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry's 8/25/23 burn ban pertaining to prescribed burning and Gov. John Bel Edwards's executive order from 8/25/23 regarding all agricultural burning. (1) DON'T BURN ANYTHING. These three words are clear and simple. All three ban orders issued on 8/25/23 read ALL OUTDOOR BURNING is prohibited with NO exceptions. (2) Any activity that involves fire/flames outdoors is included in the burn ban. Any activity that could produce a spark or flame is highly discouraged. (3) Outdoor cooking is not banned, but if your cooking creates a fire that the fire department has to respond to, you will get a citation. It doesn't matter what your fuel source is (propane, pellets, charcoal, etc.), again, if it involves a flame at any point, don't do it. (4) Mowing and yard work is not banned, however, it is preferred to avoid mowing and/or driving/operating hot machinery and/or any activity that could produce a spark on or near dry, brown, dead grass because of its flammability right now. SUMMARY: If you have to ask, please just don't do it. Lastly, if you see a fire, CALL 911 for the fire department to put the fire out!! #dontburnanything
