What about earthquakes?
You can get earthquake insurance
Just like flood insurance
Just like you should have the option or mandated to get wildfire insurance

The Camp Fire is now the most destructive, and as of a few hours ago, the deadliest in California history

There's also not a national fire insurance program.
According to my uncle who worked corporate Allstate for 20 years, there will be a national fire program eventually. He says that insurance companies soon will no longer be able to insure high risk areas out West.

Wet season is trending shorter and shorter too. Which is especially problematic as things are very dry when the Santa Ana/offshore wind season starts going.
I guess all the california migrants to TX are bringing the rain with them...

Insurance companies need to wise up and insure risk accordingly. They rate frick out of wind modeling and not so much fire and tornados.

tornados aren't wind?

Yes and no. Tropical storms was my original “wind” intentions. The Oklahoma’s type states has gotten much tougher in the insurance industry. The fire perils will be catching up soon enough.

A wildfire is the same as a house fire?

quote:Because in most areas, you’re 20-30x more likely to flood than to catch fire. If insurance companies could figure out a way to be profitable at writing flood insurance, they would do it. Maybe if flood insurance was required for all mortgages regardless of flood zone, it might entice more insurance companies to offer it since they can spread their risk around better and not be too heavily concentrated in the highest risk areas. But the way it is now, most flood policies are in high risk zones and a lot of them are at subsidized rates. Hence the need for NFIP
I’m not bitching about my rates going up just curious why one is covered under regular homeowners insurance and one isn’t.
