Congrats. My Mother, bless her soul, had 5. The smallest was 8-03, the largest 10-0. I was 9-5. All natural...whew.

Hope Mother and son are both doing well.

No they aren't.

Now that they cut horizontally instead of vertically its not bad at all.

My second daughter was 9lbs 7oz. She was born naturally. My wife's beaver didn't turn to roadkill.

My son was 9lb 8oz when he was born but there was a lady there at the same time that had a boy over 12lb.
I remember thinking how big that was so I looked up the record birth weight and it was something like 22lb.
Congratulations on the healthy birth. Hope you are caught up on your sleep.

I think the point he was trying to make is that a c section is still surgery. And any surgery always has added risks on a person. I mean....they pull out the woman's organs during the c section and flop them on her belly so they can get to the baby...pull the baby out...then shove the organs back into mom through a small incision. Your body will need time to recover from that and you shouldn't be expected to just jump out of bed the next day and go about your normal routines as soon as you are released from the hospital.

The recovery period after a c section is gonna be longer than if the woman delivered vaginally. And the woman now has other concerns related to surgery to worry about (infection at incision, etc).

I'm guessing his point was that people don't always consider a c section as a "real surgery" when it is.

If the csection is "planned," the recovery is much quicker and easier.

She had csections for both of ours. First was afte 18 hours of labor, so it wiped her out and she took a long time to recover.

Second was planned. Dropped our first off at day care and went in. Quick and "easy." Much better and faster recovery

Both of mine were >9.5 lbs and a couple weeks early.

Big babies are awesome. Everybody is suprised when you tell them their age. It's hilarious.
