So I'm sitting in the ER with my wife with what appears to be an appendix issue.

She woke up fine this morning, got ready for church. About 930 she tells me she needs to go home immediately. Extreme pain on lower right side. She proceeds to vomit and other stuff and has been in enormous pain ever since. Continued vomiting. They've given her morphine for the pain and now have had her drink some stuff so they can do a CT scan. Both nurses have told me outside the room that it sure sounds like an appendix and if so they'll do surgery today.

Somebody tell me this is normal ish and that I'm not watching my wife die or anything.

And no pics.

Doc just came in and said it's a kidney stone. Thanks for the concern guys. Looks like she's got some pain for the next few days

Appendix procedure is fairly routine unless it's ruptured. I'm sure she'll be fine baw.

I’d recommend you listen to the nurses and not the humps of the OT.

The OT will diagnose her with AIDS and banging the doctor while you’re down in the cafeteria.

I nearly died from a misdiagnosed ruptured appendix at 12. I'm not a doctor but at least pretty familiar with the procedure. My experience was atypical. I spent 48 days in the hospital.

If they catch it early it's usually an outpatient surgery or maybe one night in the hospital.

Its normal and should be routine, as long as it doesn't rupture before surgery....had mine in the 8th grade...

Been there done that. Had pain at 730 on, enough to go to the hospital. We had a 6mo old with no family in town. So we go to the ER and didn't get seen till 11 and didn't go in the back until 4am. So as my wife is in agony with no pain meds for 8 hours we have to feed change and deal with a 6mo in the ER.
Finally she goes back. I take the kid home and wait to take him to daycare then go back to the hospital.

You'll be ok.

Do you wish I did Trim?

I spent 2 weeks in intensive care. Mine was ruptured for like 13 days though.

I had a emergency appendectomy about 7 years ago. Felt super nauseous lots of pain in lower belly area. Drove myself to the ER. After a couple hours of tests they came back and said were calling in the Dr because your appendix is close to rupturing. Had laparoscopic surgery and was released the next day. Took about a week to be back to 100%. Ad long as is doesn't rupture she will be fine.

Most common surgery we would see in kids on the peds floor.

Nowadays...even if it is ruptured you might not have to stay so many days in the hospital. We had some kids with a ruptured appy they would place on antibiotics and have them come back later on to go to surgery to remove it.

OP...yall sought medical attention as soon as this all happened. That's a good thing.

If it's ruptured it could potentially be dicey but with the right care she would be okay. An infected appendix is fairly routine, however, and shouldn't be a cause for concern in the long term.

NOOOO! That’s why i was crying. I can’t believe you went that long with a misdiagnosis. Very scary. You are one resilient kiddo!

Thanks.

She had both of our kids naturally with no medication ( not by choice, epidural was just too late) so when she says she's in pain I know it's no joke.

They've given her morphine but she's still in serious pain

I had this exact same scenario and everyone at the hospital, and myself - 20 year medic in my prior life, assumed hot appendix. Went for the CT and it turned out to be a monster kidney stone. Neither are a particularly huge medical issue. But that stone made me wish I had died.

Mine was weird because it basically blew off so it didn't hurt just on the right side. They thought I had a bad infection and put me in the hospital for 3-4 days and pumped me full of drugs and I felt better.

They sent me home and I got much worse. They had to do emergency exploratory surgery. I still remember my dad driving me to the hospital flying down the shoulder of the interstate. I was having hallucinations and all kind of stuff. Pretty wild ordeal.
