Because petty proactive policing isn't the good thing many think it is. Its a major slippery slope.

We have too many laws and regulations, we are all criminals.

It's called "profiling". My best friend is a cop. He profiles all the time when we are out and about. We saw a car without it's lights on just after dark. He goes "that's a drunk driver. They don't have their lights on".
They absolutely profile for tint, failure to yield, lights burned out, lights not on etc etc. In hopes of stumbling onto a major offense.
The guy is an idiot for smoking while driving. Especially if he's selling.

Not disagreeing with you, but I'd bet your friend is not writing his report as you describe. Driving without lights does not constitute probable cause of a DWI, so if he wrote it that way it the offense would likely be thrown out. Running without lights IS probable cause for the equipment violation, which is a primary offense allowing the officer to conduct the traffic stop. Then if in the course of that legal stop, he detects the odor of an alcoholic beverage, weed, or you just have an attachment, then he lawfully built upon the initial violation into a more serious charge. Bottom line is you're right.

I have no issue with an officer stopping a car driving without lights on at night. That’s a dangerous situation for motorists on the road because that driver can’t see and other drivers can’t see him. That is a motorist who needs to be removed from the road.

However, the window tint guy is not a danger to anyone. Heck, police officers have heavy tint on their windows. If it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander.

Someone who is going 70mph in a 60mph zone on the interstate with free-flowing traffic while keeping appropriate following distances, using turn signals, etc is not a danger to anyone.

Someone who is tailgating other vehicles and weaving between lanes erratically without signaling needs to be stopped no matter what speed they’re going. They are engaging in dangerous behavior that will likely result in a collision.

Policing traffic offenses should be based in public safety, not easy revenue.

Democrats and Republicians, neither are conservative.

Some communists voted against a group of citizens being able to form their own city. I guess these "small govt conservatives" are closer those nanny state commies.

More of a nuisance law than anything. Just a reason to pull you over.

Most of our laws are nanny laws and doorways to put people into the system where authorities can better track you.

I thought smell/odor of marijuana was no longer something police could act on in Louisiana.
i seem to remember seeing something about police not being allowed to use "i smell marijuana" for searches but i could be making that up

Um I've been in cars with illegal tint and very limited visibility.

I can’t see through the windows of the tinted up vehicle in front of me to see the cars and brake lights up the road ahead of us while we’re going 70 down a packed stretch of interstate.

I can’t see through the trailer of a big rig either. I usually don’t look through the windows of a car to see the road ahead.

I believe that's called tailgating good sir.

If you're relying on being able to look through the person's windshield at 70mph directly in front of you, you're driving like a maniac

Ok mom. Posted like you’ve never driven on the interstate before. Love how the OT changes basic understanding of what it’s like to drive on a busy packed interstate based on what’s convenient for the argument.

“Stay out of the left lane!!! But I don’t tailgate anyone!!!”

Odds are I drive on the interstate more than you, everyone else on this board, and everywhere else minus truckers and a few sales people. I'm never caught going damn this guys windows are tinted so much I can't see the guys lights in front of him.

A simple veer to the left or right gives you a view of multiple cars. In a heavy congested interstate, the car in front of me is irrelevant in terms of what is going to make me brake early or do anything.

Why is it dumbass dealers have to look the look?

If I were dealing dope, I'd drive a car that doesn't stick out, I wouldn't have a marijuana plant on my license plate, I'd cut my hair, shave, wear decent clothing, obey the law as Eddie Murphy said, and not be in known dope dealing areas. If I got pulled over it would be "yes sir" and "no sir".

These idiots...........but I am happy they are idiots.
