Gonna take a wild guess and say you’re a white heterosexual Christian Republican male.

Are you open minded enough to accept there are people that don’t meet your normal? To accept that your unwillingness to understand and accept others outside of that normal makes you a part of the problem?

The problem isn’t the loss of the nuclear family. It’s not the loss of God. It’s the utter absence of understanding of one another, particularly those outside our own paradigms of normal.

I don’t condone or dismiss this shooter’s action. It’s incomprehensible. I hope he suffered and suffered slowly.

Because we make everything polarizing. I'm a conservative gun owner, but if someone came up with a realistic solution to school shootings, I'd sure listen. We have millions of guns in the hands of responsible people, but we also have guns in the hands of criminals and lunatics. No matter how you want to go about it, it would take generations to get the guns out of our society. After the unrest of 2020, I sure as hell am not giving up my guns.

The shooter in this case seems to fall into the lunatic category, not racial, not monetary, mental illness was his ticket.

Exactly. Anders Breivik killed 77 people in Norway, despite all the restrictions in the world. Dude literally started a frickin farm to get fertilizer to build bombs. Nothing is ever gonna stop a determined madman

I don't know anything about that case, but agree that there will be outliers that get past any sort of mental health checks and guns, etc.

We as a society barely do anything for mental health issues other than accept it as something different now. Even that is more of a liberal/progressive thing. However, these nutjobs killing people come from all sides of every spectrum. The only solution is to make it easier to get someone institutionalized that is a wack job. This sort of determination should come at the examination by at least 3 separate doctors who have been deeply vetted and accepted by any and all sides as not having any outside political or otherwise abnormal influences.

In short, the perfect solution has to do with mental illness and absolutely to do with guns. Only dumbasses would disagree.

I disagree here. I think the decline of the nuclear family has led to the decay of society and morals more than anything else in the past 50 years.

How about we just try something? Anything.

I don’t have the answers. No one does. We can argue till we are blue in the face on what would and wouldn’t work - no one in the universe knows

But we all know what we are doing now is objectively not working. In any other facet of life, if something is definitively not working and we need it to, we try making a change until we fix it.

We can control it. Go look at other countries that had mass shootings. They immediately changed the laws and haven’t had anymore.

You incorrectly paint me as someone who relies on “thoughts and prayers” and your solution is “try something”

Because the presence or absence of a gun had no bearing on this kids mental state. It’s insane to think otherwise.

You’re correct but why is it so easy for a clearly deranged person to have access to a gun? Just about all of these mass shootings are done by someone with clear signs of mental illness, and yet they somehow keep finding the one tool that enables them to kill a whole bunch of people in a short amount of time.

I get owning a gun is a constitutional right but it’s pretty clear that Americans as a whole haven’t lived up to their end of the bargain in regards to gun safety and keeping guns out of the hands of people that mean to do harm.

I would agree with this solution, but I’m always afraid that if we give any ground to the anti-gun side, it will be the beginning of the end.

Feel free to gather the support to Amend the Constitution.

You do of course agree with using the proper legal remedies to address the 2nd Amendment, right?

Guns are to the right what abortion is to the left. Both sides believe that the fundamental issue is personal liberty. Both sides believe that any pain/damage/loss that arises from protecting that personal liberty is acceptable, as it is more important to ensure that people using the right well don't lose it than it is to ensure other people don't abuse that right. Both sides believe that if they concede to any restriction of that personal liberty, that it's a slippery slope to ever more restrictions.

Notice that I didn't say that either side is good or bad, right or wrong. Yet it's going to trigger the absolute frick out of people on both sides of the aisle.

That’s just nonsense. The left starts chirping about “commonsense gun control” every single time there’s a mass shooter, unless the mass shooter is black. No matter what the circumstances, not matter the facts, the solution is ALWAYS “commonsense gun control” which is euphemism for “take guns away from suburban (conservative) dads.

The solution is most certainly common sense gun control.

Staring with repealing the 1934 NFA.
