I have always wondered how much a politician made off the casino when he allowed them to put it on land. As far as I know it’s the only one in LA on land that’s not Indian related. You know that cost a pretty penny and some politicians became very rich from it.

They issued one license for a land based casino and Harrah’s won the contract.

Yeah I figured it was something to do with corruption.

You know that cost a pretty penny and some politicians became very rich from it.

No doubt

When the La. Legislature finally signed off on legalized gambling, the main concession was to the La. Restaurant arse, who was concerned that gambling money would hurt their businesses. So only one land based casino was allowed.FWIW, a coincidence perhaps, the major owners of the corporation that won that only license were either wealthy plaintiff attys and/or cronies of then Gov. EWE, the most corrupt La.pol ever.

The idea was that by awarding one license it would be worth a lot of money and guaranteed success. As mentioned, Harrah's won with the high bid...and then promptly negotiated a much lower rate after it was open for about a year.

This

And since Kenner and the Westbank likes to call themselves New Orleans, there’s the Treasure Chest and Boomtown.

If you don't like Harrahs, Boomtown is 15 minutes away
