One thing I see is quite a bit is people not being honest with themselves...they convince themselves they "only eat salads" or some such nonsense and repeat the narrative over and over again until it becomes their truth. People are very reluctant to keep an honest food diary for every single thing they consume for even a solid week and do an honest accounting of the calories.

The biggest component is the number of calories in for sure, followed by the composition of those calories, and then farther down the line (with some exceptions) calories out. Obviously, this equation is different in an athlete in hard training with a very high daily caloric expenditure.

Here's one. There's plenty of studies if you want to read them or you can remain ignorant and fat.

I'm convinced it's because people don't realize how much they are eating, especially in relation to carbs (I am not anti carbs, I eat 300 grams a day) I've been tracking my food for a year and I feel like it will be necessary for the rest of my life. When I am not tracking I highly underestimate my food intake.

This. When I was serious about losing weight, I used a calorie tracker app to keep up. Those calories per serving blew me away! I had to drastically cut down portion sizes.

But, if you can keep the calories burned greater than calories consumed for a few consecutive weeks, you’ll start to see results!

I said a study.

This is some bullshite article that doesn't even reference any study.

Try again.

I said a study and you give an article from the business insider? You lose all rights to call anyone ignorant.

I never thought this would be an issue for me. Mid 40’s changed that. If I work out hard and stay away from the Carbs I can lose some but I can gain it back a hell of a lot faster.it used to be too easy. I go through times where I really want to get after it then there are other times I realize I freaking love Carbs and chilling. And eating grass gets old. Nobody is getting out of here alive so I will probably just be in the moderation category.

Like i dias, there's plenty out there, but I'm not spending my Saturday trying to convince your fatass youre just lazy. It's pointless, you aren't changing your mind and you'll keep guzzling down sweet teas and Big Macs regardless.

In the last 3-4 months, I dropped 15 lbs., with no exercise, just more than average house work (remodleing)I just starting subsituting with better choices. I stopped buying snack cakes period, instead of regular chips I get baked. If I get pasta its veggie based, and it actually tastes better than regular pasta, even my kids think so too.
I never been a carbonated drinks person so no biggie to cut. We still drink sweet tea and we still eat dessert everyday. I don't count calories, carbs, or anything else. The little changes have been unbelivable, and have made me an all around happier person inside and out.

Will power, mind over matter...

Long time ago, Discovery docu-series on SEAL training. Chubby pudgy dude made it, and was running circles around more fit trainees. I asked my Navy buddy about that. He said its all about heart when it comes to training.

Yes, I would have loved to have that caramel cake with ice cream. But, I'm trying to drop weight, not gain it. Sucks cause I wanted it. But I tell myself, once I get to where I want to be, I'll go have that , until then, coffee and sweet-in-low please.

Eating healthy is expensive

No, it's just inconvenient.

Beans, rice, pasta, canned veggies are all cheap. A pot roast costs less than dinner for 4 at McDonald's.

People have trouble losing weight because junk food is quick and convenient and most people don't understand nutrition. And people are impatient. Losing 1-2 pounds a week is good, but people feel like the results aren't fast enough so they don't stick with it.

Sweet tea is what gets you. High calories, no nutrition, and no satiation. Triple whammy.

Big Mac has 570 calories (according to a thread a few weeks ago). Not ideal, but if you skip the fries and drink water instead of Coke it's an OK lunch.

Of course people know those foods are bad for you. That’s not what I said.

I said people don’t know how to eat healthy.

Comprehension is hard. I know.

For the record, ketogenic diets though well intentioned, are incredibly dumb.

1. They are impossible to maintain long term.

2. When people get on them they plan it as basically short term drastic weight loss not that dissimilar from a starvation diet. When they get off them, they often gorge on the worst carbs at the worst time when the body is not used to insulin and is overly sensitive too it. It's fine for the initial refeeding to restore glycogen after a ketogenic diet, but that period of time is very brief.

3. Its very hard to get what you need vitamin and mineral wise on a true ketogenic diet.

Just a dumb diet. Low carb and good carbs great, ketosis dumb.

You must be a male.

Men always seem to have a much easier time losing weight than women in general.

Jealous I am.

Capitalism. We are not genetically wired to have so much food so readilly available.

You don't see many lard asses in Africa or socialist countries.
