Negative Nomad, you're looking at realities, not causes. The causes ARE OUR REALITIES.

I don't know man, it's sad how this place never seems to change in perspective, even when they look around and see it getting worse or never better. What we really need is a massive influx of people here from somewhere with a different and better perspective so as to inject life into the place. Sometimes I think It's just dying on the vine, and most people here really aren't very happy people, but still don't want to change their realities except for with stupid shite and moving further away from it rather than facing it and making it better.

It's a big country, and there are a lot of places that offer more promise.

Canada does it the right way. When you leave a bar there is a phone by the door that connects you directly to a cab company. They are there within 5 minutes.

I think someone is in good with Kipster, or he has a significant amount to do with why there aren't more companies in BR.

I don't know what happened in New Orleans over the past 5 years, but since I moved here, it is literally loaded with cabs to the point of them causing me headaches in my daily commute. For some reason, they think the left lane is the cab lane

I mean, I could go out on the interstate right now and watch for 5 minutes. I'd be willing to bet the number of cabs that pass me would be around 50, if not more

Nomad, you need to get your head out of your arse. Absolutely nothing will change with you just bitching about it. You have the exact same thought process as the women of MADD. Their solution is punishment, not prevention. If you understood one thing about people, you'd know that they are going to do it. You have to give them an easy out. Readily available cabs and public transportation are solid ways to prevent it.

I thought you wanted unique culture? Seems to be your obsession. How is emulating everyone else going to give you any unique culture?

Price you pay. You want more cabs, you get a lot of people who don't live in BR driving them.

A cab driver we use sometimes lives in Mississippi and comes to BR on football weekends only.

Canada's a big country man. What you say may be true in Toronto, but I guarantee it isn't true in rural Alberta. Same thing here; can't compare New Orleans to Bunkie.

Transportation isn't culture, is it?

Zoning, and planning a city to work functionally as a city isn't a culture. It's just common fricking sense, something this place has been lacking for a long time now. What you see here is knee jerk reactions, and quick money answers, and those areas are getting old and ugly. That's got nothing to do with good food, an original music scene, a nice night life, or French, Cajun, or other culture. That's retardation at work, not culture. Well, maybe a culture of stupid I suppose, or one that never factored it into the equation or cared much for it because they didn't identify with it or thought it was expendable.

Most cities policy toward drunk driving counters their downtown parking, cab and public transport policies. Most of our bars here are downtown, but more people live elsewhere. Parking downtown is a nightmare. If people could safely park their vehicle overnight without worrying about it being booted, maybe they'd be more prone to take cabs.

Not many people live far from towns in Canada. Even the small towns I've been to in Alberta had cab service.

When you leave a town there you are usually driving a long ways in empty country to the next town.

Several times a year, the local hotel, bar and restaurant interest group CHARR will offer free cab rides for customers who request it.

I spent a week in Kapuskasing, Ontario. A town the size of Watson. Had a downtown area with 3-4 bars. There were 8 taxis in that down town area every night. The thing is in Ontario(Timmons is about size of Alec and is is where Shania Twain is from. ) at least, they have zero tolerance for taking you to jail. Open container or admit to or smell like booze, and you go to jail. You can argue in court for sure but... you go to jail that night. It's a good deterrent but would never fly down here.

Funny thing is......as far as Baton Rouge is concerned, we are having more conversation in a few hours on TD than they have had in 15 years about drinking and driving

Their solution is:
Whelp, drinking and driving. Must increase checkpoints.

That does no good for the hundreds people that don't get caught driving through them and wreck and kill someone. Emphasis is on punishment instead of prevention, which is incredibly ignorant.

Look how hard it is to get a cab when Mockler is picking up the tab. Those mf'ers just don't want to work
