Most grocery stores are only a good value if you shop the sales.

Whole Foods...
I can understand why they are expensive. Albertsons isn't near as nice as rouses, and more expensive.

Dont blame them too much. They often have a sale on Glenfiddich for ~$20 a bottle where as is $35-$40 everywhere else.

Wal mart kicks everyone's arse on can goods and such.... meat is another story and the produce is iffy.... but staple items is where it's at with wal mart.... they have billions of $ so they can get away with it....

I only go to the Albertson's on Jones Creek and the one one Airline/Highland...They don't seem to give a shite. When other nicer newer stores are opening up and Winn Dixie has remodeled their stores, Albertson's has done nothing. Maybe they're just waiting to die.

Albertsons on Perkins and Essen is ridiculous. Slow check out, shitty customer service of Walmart (ok not quite as bad) coupled with high prices of an AG Store.

The fresh baked rolls are the best in Baton Rouge. I go there just for the rolls.

Wal mart service is horrible at the checkout... but they go with the idea of I will sell 100 can of peas at $1... we have that kind of volume... Albertsons wants higher profits and will sell same can of peas for $1.49. But have way less volume..... wal mart wins... as trashy as it is, those are the facts...

The extra profit goes to Monopoly payouts.
That thing is such a scam. We buy a ton of shite from Albertson's, so I took an afternoon to sort through the stack of Monopoly handouts. We got like one tiny jar of pickles out of a hundred monopoly coupons.
I prefer the free cookware deal. At least with that you know you're getting something.

A young guy I know plays Albertsons monopoly buy the handful he buys the ramen noodles in bulk when they put them on sales and brings them to the food bank.. I think he's won a large prize every year

the Essen location is a good place to hang out with the homeless, that is unless they are passed out in the parking lot as I saw yesterday

They are huge in Germany. Moving quickly through the US.

Like the cart system they use too. They don't want to pay anyone to round up carts so they charge a quarter to borrow a cart. After you bring the cart back you get your money. Although half the people give their carts to people entering the store as some sort of pay-it-forward movement.
Good system. I believe they charge like a half Euro coin over there. Seems to work well. You rarely see a cart away from the store. Over here they just low jack a wheel to lock up if it leaves the property.

BTW, the new kroger in Kingwood, Tx is the greatest grocery store I have ever been in.

I always kept my tickets and made friends with all the cashiers and would ask for and receive extra ones. I won $100 cash a few years ago but that's it. It's hard as hell to win.

I don't find Whole Foods to be as good as it once was. Not saying they're going downhill, but they seem stale to me.

There is a new Kroger in kingwood? Where? I am moving there in a week. The one off the beltway near W. Lake Houston is the shite.

Speaking of Albertsons, I stopped in for a six pack last night and as I'm exiting my vehicle a big black dude is hauling arse straight at me, being trailed by several cops yelling and running, and multiple other units pulling up to the store. For a second I thought I was fixing to get shot or carjacked, I went into flight mode and ran behind another vehicle. The guy ran into the grocery store and was tackled/arrested in front of the cash registers. A bunch of Starbucks gift cards fell out of his pocket, apparently he robbed the Starbucks across the parking lot, wrecked his getaway vehicle while being chased, then ran into Albertsons for cover. A couple of older Mexican ladies saw me run and were laughing their asses off at the scared gringo for taking cover. /csb
And yet in the post above you called the OP out for living in poorville? But your story above has black thug/thieves, carjacking, tackles and arrest and old Mexicans laughing at a gringo.
I think I would reconsider the accusation to the OP since you apparently live in a shithole yourself.
