It was always funny when kids used to have ceremonies in the school gym to announce which school they were committing to. Many would say “I’m taking my talents to the University of Auburn.”

Then you have university of Oklahoma but call themselves OU

Only 5 Div 1 football schools do not have "University" in their names:
Georgia Tech
Boston College
the 3 Academies
