It’s been going on for a minute in the United Methodist Church—now the not so United Methodist Church—but it reached a breaking point in the last year or so when the more conservative churches split off to form the Global Methodist Church. Much of the UMC institutional apparatus has been trying to plow this field for decades, notwithstanding the folks in the pews.

How can they condone someone living in sin this way?

It is not Christian anymore if they allow it. They are preaching politics and not from the Bible. They have created their own personal God that is ok with whatever sin they want. This is a false God and it states in the 10 commandments: thall shall have no other God before me.

Story of Protestantism, but most of your mainline denoms have had similar crackups in the past decades, including the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians, over this and related issues.

Churches (any denomination) will alter its beliefs in a heartbeat if it means bringing in more money.

I'm not religious personally, but to say they're "living in sin this way" seems hypocritical. Isn't everyone living in sin to some extent according to most religions? I'm closing in on 40, and as far as I've been able to tell, gay people are pretty much born that way for the most part.

The queers, etc. use the church’s rules of acceptance, judgement, etc against the church.

Over 7300 (probably more now) congregations have left the UMC over this…

Try again. EDS isn't a Catholic school. Gotta stand up for my peeps.

Has it impacted the Presbyterian church? They’re pretty conservative, no? I know that the Episcopal church, while WASP-y, is pretty liberal thinking. Didn’t the Episcopal church have a big split because of this (Anglican vs Episcopalian)?

You would think it’s a $ move, but the denoms that went that route have lost considerably more members than others.

I think the PCUSA (largest Presbyterian denom), went from something like 3 million members in 1990 to around 1.25 million by the 2020s

Lot of these denoms are just living off the last bits of institutional equity they had, the carcass of the dead church.

Regarding the Presbyterians—lot of different Presbyterian break offs/denoms—but yes, as to the PCUSA, the largest, most progressive body.

The smaller, more conservative denoms (PCA, EPC, ECO) don’t countenance it and are either static or growing.

I grew up going to a PCUSA church but it's one of the few in the area without a pride flag

Our enemies realized they could never defeat us in a head to head battle, so they have eroded our values over time, i.e. the frog in the cookpot.
