there are some bad 18 wheeler drivers, but in my experience most of them are the best on the road out of anyone.
yeah, most times it's the truckers reacting to some other idiot that ends up causing problems.

WHAT?? You are not supposed to change lanes to allow a car to merge onto the interstate! The merging driver is responsible for matching or exceeding the speed of traffic, in order to safely merge. Moving to the left lane is FOR PASSING, not a courtesy move for granny who is doing 35mph and try to get on the interstate with traffic doing 70mph.

Is this the thread where I can tell you all that the "zipper merge" is bullshite and doesn't move traffic along any faster, and in fact, makes things worse?
frick your zipper merge.
frick your zipper merge.

I was semi joking, but I believe truckers are instructed to do that.
I'm rarely cruising in the right lane, but if I am, I'll move over at an on ramp if the left/middle lane is clear just to avoid some idiot who wants to merge without looking at his mirrors or blind spot.

in what world do you live? zipper move is 100% the better way. there's not way to say it doesn't work because not everyone knows to use it.
if you ever saw a place where every car knew to zipper merge, it would work lightyears better than people merging 100 yards from the merge point then backing up traffic for miles.

I usually see this when you lose a lane or two and more are exiting than the road can handle.

What takes more time to get through a single lane:
3 cars in a straight line
or
2 cars in a straight line with 3rd in the next lane....second car has to slow down to let the 3rd one in, and 3rd one has to safely merge into the next lane

Bottle necks, people entering on busy ramps and large trucks having difficulty starting and stopping as quickly as smaller vehicles. Not rocket science.
Add in the rubber necks checking out accidents and it’s pretty easy to figure out the causes.

Be sure to hit the George Wallace Tunnel east-bound at about 5:15 PM on your way back. If there happens to be a wreck on the Bay-way about this time of day, clear your calendar.

Because stupid people are allowed to drive

Yeah people seeing their "buffer" as an opening is killer. Especially one they break in front of them. If it's an open clearing, and they go in smoothly then less issues.
I learned once driving thru memphis when I cut a truck off and I could count the bugs on his grill thru the rearview. Geez moments like that dont let a man forget theres a God ha.
Really is a lot of people that are selfish, and not considerate. it's like playing chess. Being conscious of little things, but we are talking about a lot of people who cant keep their check book balanced living pay check to pay check mixed with pricks that dont want to let people merge in, mixed with people who are constantly looking to cut in line by going in the on/off ramp just to leap frog, mixed with xyz... Then throw in the pack of crotch rocket tool bags too.
Little things I do include watching the brake lights of the car in front of the one in front of me. Why I dont drive behind larger vehicles I cant see. I dont get how people sit behind semi's for miles and miles. Just staring at the back of it.

The later but without your biased opinion of what happens.
Try it with 45 cars. You’ve got 44 in front of you or they all use the available lane that’s just wasting away and merge at the last moment.

I don’t understand how people wreck going straight on a 4 lane interstate. Blows my mind.
