I don’t think I’ve ever heard any other auto company mention those awards.

Don't you also brag about things you buy?

Feel like they’ve been doing this for like 20 years at least.

Interesting....
Jalponic.com article

You must have seen at least one of them. The ads purport to show “real people” reacting to the amount of J.D. Power awards a given Chevy model had won. The underlying premise of the whole ad is that (a) people know what J.D. Power awards are and (b) people care how many J.D. Power awards a given make and model has won.

He called the company J.D. Power and Associates, the associates being his wife, Julie, and their children.

The fine print in the new commercials say for 2015 models even though they are advertising for new models

Because they win so many of them and the winning or losing happens to be based upon customer experience with the product. So it is in Chevrolet's best interest to tell potential customer that odds are you'll be pleased as these people are if you own our product.
BTW, they do best with scores on their SUV's and trucks and those happen to be their best sellers. Their SUV's are strong, strong, strong in the market place and have been since Mary Barra became the head honcho @ Chevrolet which was expected since she was a dynamite product developer and worked on the line and in the development dept there since she was 18. In her initial speech she said she was going to improve the development and fit and finish of the products and would live or die on customer satisfaction with those products. And all of the SUV's from the small thru Equinox and on to Venture, Tahoe and Suburban are among the most desired and loved vehicles around. Vehicles are rated on break downs or lack there of during the first year I believe of ownership and also the fit and finish of the vehicle.
