They aren't convenient for everyone.
No doubt. There will probably never be a car that makes sense for everyone.

This isn't the 1990's boomer

But, If all things were equal in cost and convenience, why wouldn’t you pick electric?
The problem they are far from equal. Build an electric car or truck that has the range and fill-up/recharge time, cost to maintain comparable to gas, durability and purchase price and I'd consider one. Right now there is no way in hell I'd own one.

We go through them ad nauseum on a monthly basis. Both the current state and the 7-8 year-old talking points.

Are you speaking to lithium battery mining? Yes I'm aware. I think I've seen numerous studies showing the full environmental impact of an ICE still being higher than that of a fully electric vehicle though. If you know of anything that disproves that though I'd love to take a look

Hard rock lithium mining has been almost completely replaced by brine mining, not just for the environmental side but for cost/efficiency and time to market.

How about supply? I've been laughed off the poliboard for my stance on peak oil, which I 100% still believe is going to be a massive crisis within a decade or two. That said, I am even more skeptical there is enough lithium for batteries to run the interstate highway system and global commerce.

Because they require a shite ton of minerals to make the batteries. And this is how you get almost all of them…
And this is who I work for…
That’s pretty much the only reason I can think of. Past that it’s a terrible idea and you’d have to be a complete idiot to think it would be either feasible or advantageous to swap everything over to electric.

Let me help you out kid, if you want lithium in the amounts required to supply the whole country in electric vehicles, you’re gonna have to move a whole lot of dirt.

Virtually every car company is reading the government dictates and heavily investing in EVs. They know where Big Brother demands that they go.

The known reserves have been increasing SIGNIFICANTLY year on year since the increase in needs were projected. There is also ocean nodule recovery that along with lithium has a wealth of other rare earths. Lithium concern also assumes lithium will continue to be the base for high energy density batteries for some time, which it likely won't. Just like the concerns about cobalt have been shifting battery design away from its use. We are still in the early days for mass electrical energy storage. Just like the efficiency of recovery (both cost and environmental) and the efficiency of the storage and use of O&G over 100 years battery/electical tech will mature and likely continue at a must faster rate.

Once Bill Gates Micro nuclear plants get up and running in the next few years everything will work better.
