Just had my sidewall blow out in two spots while I was at a dead stop. Second time it's happened with these damn run flats.

With all the great materials out there, why aren't there tires that are filled with a lightweight compressible material that won't fail if punctured?

because it is a substance proven to stay liquefied under those arduous circumstances and it is cheap/abundant. Not really hard to understand.

Get run flats that are self supporting instead of just the ring

They do exist. They are called run flat tires that allow you to go 100 miles after being punctured.

Name such a material that has those properties and is abundant enough to fill the volume required by all of our vehicle tires.

I don't know of any materials but my question is why all the tires? Why not just the people willing to pay for it.

You didn't read the OP. He was complaining specifically about run flats.

I answered your question. The technology is coming fast. If it's already being used commercially you can bet it will find its way to the everyday consumer soon.

Cool, but how will those wheels/tires handle interstate speeds?
