I think aids was created by the Russians. The reason I think this is in the 70s a research facility in New Orleans received a HeLa culture from Russia (HeLa stands for Henrietta Lacks, fascinating story) that couldn't be used because it was contaminated by monkey viruses, one of which was simian aids.

It is my understanding that people of Northern European descent have, over time, built up immunities to various animal viruses (bovine, swine, canine, etc.) because over thousands of years they slept and lived in the same quarters with these animals in winter.
