The only celebrity whose actions have been worth a shite is Ashton Kutcher and his work in combating child pornography. The rest are a bunch of attention whores that can't stand the idea of their fame/relevance fading into oblivion.

There's a Dana Carvey bit that explains this. Sort of.
You could take and Orange and shoot with 3 or 4 cameras and give it a live feed 24/7. Then take the orange to grocery stores. People would walk by and say, "look honey, it's the orange from TV!"
I am paraphrasing like a bastard but that is fame. That bit is at least 20 years old too.

Good question, we elected a celebrity to be our president.

Well, Obama was more than just a celebrity-he was also a Community organizer.

When working at their jobs, many celebrities--actors, musicians, etc., actually SOUND pretty well-spoken and well-read. Of course, that's their job, to "act" because we are entertained by their acting. The stories they play, and they read well, or deliver lines in convincing fashion.
We extrapolate that, and the fact that it comes into our homes OR we consume their fare at the cinema where it's ten times larger than life. It gets into your head, and in that carefully constructed world, they come across as smart.
Even though, once you listen to them off-camera for work, they are usually less educated than most. But they deliver good lines with convincing manners.

Celebrities have no expertise in anything other than the superficial, so why should anyone care what they think on any non significant topic.
everyone LOVES to hate on celebrities while secretly wishing they were one

There are a lot of celebrities who are down to earth but they don't get as much attention because Americans prefer the ones who act trashy (how bow dah).

Never understood this either. These people get paid to entertain - who cares what they think about anything

You would do the TD community a great service if you quit posting.
