I’ve seen the basketball teams at red lights with buckets asking for money since the mid 2000’s

If a local Rec team makes it to state or WS in Dixie, Little League etc I think it's fine to ask for donations. Chances are a lot of these kid's parents don't have the means to pay for the trip, and the kids earned it. If a travel ball team has paid to go to a "World Series" in Destin or something and are asking for money that's trashy AF. That's like asking for someone to pay for your vacation.

And a lot of them make so much money off of this. They put themselves up in a condo at the Phoenix West and pay for the parents as well as the kids.

Just seen one on FB where the mom is doing a 50/50 raffle just to cover the gas bill.

I work with a feller who was always saying big schools were looking at his son. Well, his son is trying to walk on at a community college now and the dad is saying it's because covid messed the scouts up or some shite

We used to do fundraisers: car washes, exercise goals/incentives, raffles, etc.

Today it seems the kids just blatantly ask for money with no effort like a homeless person on the corner.

I saw a cheerleader uniform "sponsorship" the other day where you could sponsor each individual part. Left arm, right arm, logo, torso, shoes, bow, etc. Its maddening. When did your life choices become everyone's financial burden?

trashy as hell. If you want to do a fundraiser, do it. but this stupid shite of asking for money or asking for someone to pick a day on a calander and send that much money is complete bullshite.

i have kids in travel ball, multiple kids, its still trashy as frick when people do that. do a fundraiser, dont just ask for money. cant afford it, find a new team who doesnt travel and plays local.

well not sure if you been paying attention but covid and the transfer portal has screwed up everything as far as traditional path to 4 year college.

unless you ar all american....going to be almost impossible to go to a big D1 school like in the SEC out of HS. they are goign to take almost all transfers

to go to juco and be on the team, still have to be a fricking stud. only 5-7% of hs baseball players play past that level.

It is bad. A friend owned a small business in a 2-school town, and he was constantly hit up by the sports teams, bands, etc. to buy ads in the yearbooks, sponsor the various teams, etc.

He said he agreed to one ad-buy per year from each school, and that was it, or he would have gone broke. It's almost worse to buy once, because they then see you as a potential sucker and come to you for every fundraiser/bumming program.

worse part is when people wont buy from you cause you are $5 more per month then some out of state company after you have donated over and over again.

We played 9 softball tournaments this spring, I guarantee it was only about $1,000 - $1,500 for the whole season.

How poor are these folks?

This pisses me off so much. There is a certain group that sits on the corner here in Lafayette every weekend begging for money for some sporting trip. Years ago they would do something for donation like wash cars. Not today, just give me money for nothing. fricking bums.

I won't give to the bucket holders in traffic but I will stop for a car wash occasionally. I don't even care if they do a shitty job but they're gonna do something.

yea most teams dont travel more than an hour away 90% of the time.

were i see the begging is the parents that want to go play for some national/regional team like traction black or they want to take a team to the cal ripken or cooperstown expierence. thats fricking bullshite. dont be on that team if you cant afford it.

there is nothing wrong with playing all tournaments in the BR/Laf/LC area. you dont need to travel to some big arse tournament to be scouted and nobody is being scouted at 10....at 12, sure but even then, if you show out, they will find you in HS

I spend that on one tournament but we play lacrosse, not baseball. Parents are usually at a higher income level than baseball parents.

Because as others mentioned, that $1k - $1.5K is just the costs for the tournament. They also need to raise money for gas to get there, the hotel/condo, food for the entire family, spending money for the team and siblings since they are away from home... These costs they are begging for aren't just to cover the cost of the tournaments

In our day it was selling raffle tickets or candy bars.

I remember doing this too. But like you said it was rec league and it probably cost my parents $5 to sign me up. Those raffles and candy bars went to buying baseballs and paying the umps not for travel to Orange Beach for the week.

what fricking tournament cost 1500 for each parent to enter?

yall are making shite up. that would be 15k to enter for the team and no tournament is close to that. I dont know of a tournament besides cooperstown and cal ripken jr expierence that even 1500 for the whole team and even those include ammentities.
