Why do many people consider BJJ to be best for self defense?

Seems wrestling, judo, or boxing would be. Wrestling and boxing you can hit or throw and get out, while BJJ you have to grapple and only lock up on one guy while others can hit you from behind. Maybe BJJ is decent for 1 on 1, but no way for multiple people. Still seems boxing would be better 1 on 1. I'm not talking about a black belt or anything, just say someone that's been doing a martial art for a year maybe HS age needing to defend him or herself from a bully or drunk guy at a party type situation.

I'm not knocking BJJ, just curious of opinions. I agree a gun is the best but as I mentioned below, teenagers at school, party, girl being attacked in parking lot from unarmed guy, sports locker rooms type situations where guns aren't usually gonna be. Both you and attacker (bully) are unarmed.

In all honesty the best self-defense is to be an Olympic level sprinter and just dip when things go south.

Joe Rogan.

But also every fight, unless you’re fighting a trained boxer or fighter, or you get knocked the frick out quick, winds up into a grappling match.

Well I'm well into my 40s so to me yes. I'm thinking about younger people, teenagers, late teens. Thrown up against a locker, someone starting shite in football locker room, girl attacked by unarmed attacker, drunk dudes at a party type situations.

I don’t think boxing is going to help as much as the other 3. Almost every altercation ends up on the ground. Or they’re to close to use a boxing technique.

So you’d rather give a BJ than recurve a BJ?

Because you are usually within close qtrs, and it nullifies any size advantage of the person is unskilled.

I lift, BJJ and have decent cardio.

As a small woman, I have been able to overcome large men with BJJ. Very elementary but effective.

Blue belts can do work on someone unskilled.

They just might hurt them

The biggest reason is that mostly the size of the attacker doesnt matter IF the bjj person knows what they are doing. You can get an untrained or uneducated attacker down in mere seconds and break a bone or choke them out. But as far as being the best, thats questionable. With so many hybrids of mma these days, and more and more people are taking up the sport, you better know what your doing if youre going to try and use it.

I've given many pairs of blue jeans away, I don't understand the big deal.
