Why do certain professions deserve praise?

It’s not like anyone who is a “first responder”, police officer, or nurse turned down an executive position at a Fortune 500 company because they wanted to “save lives”. Why do they deserve praise or get to claim any type of moral superiority? They all just chose those jobs because they thought it was best for them, which is great. But it’s the same reason that an electrician or anyone chooses to work in the field that they do. And yes this applies to the military as well. There is no draft and hasn’t been for 60 years, people go into the military because they feel it’s a good decision for them personally, which again, is perfectly fine and great. But I’m not going to walk up to any people of these professions and tell them thank you for simply doing their respective jobs.

Why does an a-hole get to ask a question?

You’re an idiot, because this isn’t the right board and if you don’t have that amount of wherewithal, then you don’t have the common sense to be smart and successful.
Also, don’t be a piece of shite. Some jobs are more admirable and selfless than others. Eat shite, frick head.

This may be the case for a small percentage, but i'd imagine most people go in for the want to serve their country. To not acknowledge that deed makes you a POS in my eyes.

I was taught and I teach my kid to respect and thank anyone that does a job that you aren't willing to do yourself.

I have 3 college degrees, and could work in the private sector and make more, but choose to serve in the military.
I’m not an internet badass, but I would be willing to kick your arse.

Wait until you have a dread disease or a disabling injury and a DR treats you and gives you your life back.
I bet you will feel differently.
I had back surgery thirty years ago.
Thank you Dr Sanders.

This is a praise football players only board.

While this is most definitely the wrong board, and I certainly would never post what you did, I can't say you're 100% wrong either.

Why can't you just praise people who do a good job??? You don't have to praise someone just because they do a certain job...

I have served 17 years (so far) in the military and I have no particular need for your praise, nor do I claim any moral superiority. However, on whether military members have other options for employment in executive positions, you are wrong on two counts.
First, some like myself were fortunate enough to have a college education prior to entering service and quite a few obtain a masters along the way. Had I elected to go the commercial route, I have no doubt I would have had other options.
I assume by your comment though that you are talking about the enlisted service members. Admittedly, most do not enter with a degree. They join for a thousand individual reasons, but recognize that they also had other options. Even if they are placed in a non-combat role, most are still subject to long hours, forced cross-country moves, and if you stay in long enough, multiple deployments. Yes, they receive solid pay, good medical benefits, and the Post-9/11 GI Bill, but there are easier ways to get a future education. After separating, many go on to leverage that GI Bill into very successful second careers.
Bottom line, you don’t need to praise anyone because they don’t need you to in order for them to be proud of what they do. You should however simply keep your opinion of their potential to yourself, because it’s a terrible take.

Maybe because they often put themselves in harm’s way for not a lot of money or reward. There’s nothing wrong in recognizing that. I damn well know I couldn’t do what they do. Also, wrong board.

These people KNOWINGLY and WILLINGLY accept the inherent risk that comes with said jobs.
Said risk, by the way, is empirically and vastly more than the risk of most other professions.
What an awful viewpoint.
These people VOLUNTEER to risk themselves for the sake of others...just as you stated. GTFO of here with that crap.

There's nothing wrong with recognizing and telling someone "Thanks" who have ended up being exposed or more susceptible to the Virus because of the job they do on a daily basis...it does'nt matter if they work in health care..law enforcement...a cashier in the grocery...whatever they do....They're out there for their families and livelihood...whenever whatever they do....nobody chose where we're at today....goofball....

Because the people in them could gain more doing a different profession. QB's get more Heisman's than players on defense, but we still need players on defense in order to have a complete roster; lest football turns into the BigXII.
